About the Role

The Video Strategist is a new and pivotal role within the Yahoo Ads division, created to define, implement, and bring to market a holistic video strategy across all of Yahoo’s iconic brands—including Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo News, Entertainment, and more.

At the outset, this will be a team of one, supported by cross-functional partners across Brand Strategy, Ad Product, Sales, Editorial, and Data Insights. The Video Strategist will develop frameworks, best practices, and market-ready solutions that help our audiences, production partners, and roster of blue-chip advertisers get the most value from Yahoo’s extensive video capabilities.

This role blends art and science—balancing creative storytelling, data-driven insights, and deep platform expertise. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, analytical thinker, and creative problem solver who can turn data into strategy and strategy into action.

Key Responsibilities

Video Strategy Development

  • Build and implement Yahoo’s go-to-market video strategy, spanning editorial sponsorships, branded content, pre-roll, mid-roll, in-video, and emerging formats.
     

  • Develop frameworks that connect Yahoo’s premium content and data capabilities to advertiser goals across categories and platforms.
     

  • Translate performance data and audience insights into actionable video opportunities that enhance user experience and advertiser value.
     

Innovation & Go-to-Market

  • Partner with Sales and Brand Strategy teams to develop new, video-led ad solutions that meet evolving client needs.
     

  • Collaborate with Editorial, Product, and Programming teams to ensure video initiatives align with consumer demand and business priorities.
     

  • Identify market trends, competitive offerings, and emerging technologies that can inform future video strategies.
     

Creative & Analytical Balance

  • Combine creative storytelling instincts with analytical rigor to craft marketing materials that make a persuasive case for Yahoo’s video solutions.
     

  • Dive deep into video performance data to uncover insights and optimization opportunities.
     

  • Present insights and recommendations to senior leadership and external clients in compelling, data-informed narratives.
     

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Serve as the connective tissue across Yahoo’s brands and business units for all things video.
     

  • Work closely with Ad Product and Consumer teams to help shape the roadmap for future video products and monetization opportunities.
     

  • Champion a culture of innovation, insight, and collaboration within the broader Ads organization.
     

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years of experience in video strategy at a media company, agency, or tech platform.
     

  • Deep understanding of video formats, storytelling principles, and audience behavior across on-platform and off-platform environments.
     

  • Proven ability to interpret and act on data to drive strategic recommendations.
     

  • Strong collaborator, communicator, and storyteller; comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders and clients.
     

  • Passionate about the intersection of content, technology, and advertising—and eager to build something new from the ground up.
     

  • A self-starter with a bias for action and a collaborative mindset.

The compensation for this position ranges from $122,625.00 - $255,625.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
