  • Research ongoing litigation, elections, and political developments to identify timely video opportunities.
  • Write scripts and talking points for on-camera segments.
  • Collaborate with the video editor to shape cuts, titles, and packaging for on-camera content.
  • Appear on additional video platforms as needed to support Democracy Docket's broader content and audience growth strategy.
  • Work with reporters and the news division to stay current on political and legal developments.
  • Use analytics to inform content decisions and on-camera strategy.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in video journalism, producing, or a related field, with on-camera experience.
  • Strong news judgment and familiarity with voting rights and election law developments.
  • Comfortable and effective on camera, with strong verbal communication skills.
  • Experience producing or appearing in short-form, social-first video content.
  • Strong writing skills for scripts and talking points.
  • Passionate about voting rights and democracy.

Work Environment
This is a full-time role based out of our Jersey City office. Our core business hours are 9am-6pm, and we currently operate on a hybrid schedule, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays and in-office days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

What We Do

Democracy Docket is the leading digital news platform dedicated to information, analysis and opinion about voting rights and elections in the courts. Founded in 2020, Democracy Docket is the leading digital news and information platform covering voting rights, elections, and the courts — from an unapologetically pro-democracy standpoint. Tracking election and democracy litigation is central to our mission. But today’s battles over democracy — access to voting, gerrymandering, executive overreach, the rule of law, and more — also play out in Congress, in the administration, and in states around the country. Through our comprehensive coverage, we’re committed to the fight to protect and strengthen U.S. democracy at a time when it faces grave dangers. 📲 Follow us on social YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@DemocracyDocket Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/democracydocket.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/democracydocket/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/democracydocket X/Twitter: https://x.com/DemocracyDocket TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@democracydocket Threads: https://www.threads.net/@democracydocket
