The Video Engineer position is part of a team of live production professionals on Full Sail University’s Winter Park, FL campus. The successful candidate will work alongside staff and students who have a passion for live event production and are eager to support every event that happens at Full Sail. This position will primarily support Full Sail University’s premier production space Full Sail Live, and our new Esports facility The Fortress. In addition, the video engineer will be involved in a wide range of events both on and off campus. This position is part of the Live Events team and will report to the Director, Event Technical Operations.At Full Sail University, our number one priority is our students, and everything we do supports their education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Attend pre-production meetings as required to understand the needs of our internal and external clients for upcoming events
- Generate paperwork documenting video systems across multiple venues. Update paperwork as necessary so there is always a current, working documentation archive for all video systems
- Generate show specific paperwork when required for large events such as Full Sail’s Hall of Fame
- Create, manage and store show files across multiple venues and equipment types such as switchers, routers, tally routers and multi-viewers
- Coordinate with Production Managers to ensure video positions are adequately staffed for each event
- Train, mentor and cultivate students to work alongside the live event team, helping them to develop their skills. The ideal candidate will actively seek out opportunities to mentor students who show an interest in video production.
- Ability to operate shows when required and delegate smaller events to trained and qualified students
- Make recommendations for video equipment rentals and purchases
- Assist the Director, Event Technical Operations with building annual capital budgets for video equipment
- Assist the Director, Event Technical Operations with building annual operating budgets for items such as freelance labor, service contracts, equipment rental, expendables and routine maintenance
- Manage routine maintenance of video systems, utilizing a mix of staff and student crew

Supervisory Responsibilities: No
Competencies:
- In-depth, practical knowledge of video switchers. Previous experience with Ross Video and Grass Valley switchers is preferred. This role frequently acts as a TD and trains students on how to be TD’s.
- In-depth, practical knowledge of video transport protocols such as SDI, HDMI and DVI. The ideal candidate will also be eager to learn IP video protocols such as SMPTE 2110, NDI and SRT
- Strong understanding of SDI video routers, router control systems and audio embedding/de-embedding
- Working knowledge of video test and measurement hardware such as waveform monitors and vectorscopes
- Previous experience setting up, shading and painting cameras is essential to this position
- Familiarity with LED walls and LED wall processors
- Experience color correcting displays such as LED walls and projection screens
- Knowledge of video servers such as EVS
- Ability to build and test typical video cables such as Coax/BNC and Cat5e/Cat6 required. Basic soldering skills are also a plus
- Basic networking skills are required for this position. The ideal candidate would be eager to expand their networking knowledge alongside the Live Events team.
- Excellent communication skills. The job will require a high degree of professionalism, interaction with outside clients and interaction with student production crews
- This position often requires night and weekend work as dictated by the production schedule. This is not a 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday job.
Education and/or Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the live event industry
- Degree in a related field preferred
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Ability to move between Mac and PC on a daily basis
Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:
This position will primarily support Full Sail University’s premier production space Full Sail Live, and our new eSports facility The Fortress. In addition, the video engineer will be involved in a wide range of events both on and off campus. This position is part of the Live Events team and will report to the Director, Event Technical Operations. May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
