New York, NYBon Appétit/Epicurious seeks a Video Director who deeply understands food storytelling and knows how to make videos that are entertaining, insightful, and inherently delicious.
The Video Director is responsible for shaping and executing the creative vision for assigned Bon Appétit and Epicurious series from treatment through final delivery. They are a leader on set, a strong collaborator in post, and a key steward of each series’ voice, tone, and visual language. This individual understands how to translate food, technique, and personality into compelling videos that resonate with audiences. The ideal candidate will bring expert-level knowledge of YouTube-specific video craft, understanding how every creative choice—from opening hooks to pacing decisions—influences algorithmic performance and audience behavior.
The Video Director will work closely with Creative Producers, Associate Producers, and Post-Production to execute high-quality, serialized video content across platforms. This role reports to the Senior Director of Content Production and is based in New York City.
Primary Responsibilities:
Serve as the creative lead for assigned Bon Appétit and Epicurious series, owning the visual and narrative execution from development through final delivery.
Lead shoots as the director, managing crews, talent, and production workflows with confidence and professionalism.
Work closely with Creative Producers and Associate Producers to develop treatments that elevate existing series and support new formats.
Maintain a deep understanding of series tags, tone, pacing, and audience expectations, ensuring every episode both hits core beats and pushes the series forward.
Oversee post-production by scripting edits, reviewing cuts, providing clear and constructive edit notes, and ensuring final videos meet creative, editorial, and performance goals.
Rigorously research food topics, culinary talent, and experts to ensure accuracy and credibility.
Direct and work effectively with on-camera talent, including chefs, editors, experts, and guests, helping them feel confident and authentic on camera.
Track and understand content performance, using insights to refine creative decisions and strengthen future episodes.
Monitor competitive food and lifestyle content to stay ahead of trends and identify opportunities for innovation.
Participate in creative brainstorms and contribute to the development of new series, formats, and platform-specific ideas.
Collaborate with cross-functional partners on sponsored content, ensuring integrations feel organic, editorially sound, and creatively strong.
Foster positive, professional relationships with crew, talent, vendors, and stakeholders.
Act as a leader and mentor on set and within the team, modeling professionalism, clear communication, and a solution-oriented mindset.
Support onboarding and development of new staff and freelancers, contributing to a collaborative and inclusive team culture
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of 3+ years directing and producing digital video, preferably in food, lifestyle, or editorial content.
A demonstrated track record in creative execution
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced production environment.
Experience overseeing the full production lifecycle, including development, production, and post-production.

Salary Range: $102k - $120k
