Job Description:

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office employs Victim Assistance Coordinators (VACs) to provide victims of crime with criminal justice information, emotional support, and notification of their rights in compliance with the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure. As part of their duties, VACs make initial contact with victims, provide case update, assist with State Crime Victims’ Compensation paperwork, assist with the Victim Impact Statement (VIS), translation for prosecutors (if bilingual), attend pre-trial meetings, provide court accompaniment, make referrals to community partners and services, and answer questions about the criminal justice process.

This position is supported through grant funding and is therefore contingent upon the continuation of such funding. In the event the grant is not renewed, the position may be discontinued. Funding for this role is currently authorized through September 30, 2026.

Required Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Victim Studies, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or related field or ten (10) years of documented work experience working with victims of crime in a law enforcement, social services organization, or in a health care setting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing to produce clear correspondence, concise histories, and properly documented records and reports.

Preferences:

  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish, with the ability to speak, read, and write proficiently in both languages.

Hours:

  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Hours may vary based on the business needs of the department. May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek.

Salary (Starting):

  • $65,603.20 annually
