Company Overview

Orbis Operations is a technology company that delivers sovereign intelligence and decision capabilities to the United States Government and its allies. We convert complex information and operational systems into decisive outcomes, giving public institutions and critical enterprises the tools to move faster, see clearer, and act first in an increasingly contested world.

We are not a consulting firm and not a systems integrator. Every Orbis team is built around practitioners who have operated at the mission edge, and every engagement is judged on one thing: whether it produces working capability, not slide decks. Solutions forged from experience — that is how we build, and it is how we hire.

Job Summary

Orbis Operations is building its international and commercial business, and this Vice President is its principal technical authority. You will shape, win, and provide accountability for the delivery of complex technology programs for allied-nation, coalition, and commercial clients, owning each engagement from solution design through sustained operations.

More than an architect, this is the leader the executive team leans on for the technical judgment that drives client outcomes and firm growth. You work at the intersection of technology, mission, and business, translating what Orbis builds into what clients need and delivering on every commitment.

The credibility this role requires

Orbis sells into rooms where credibility is established in the first five minutes or not at all. The person in this seat has sat on the other side of the table. You have watched a decision get made late, or wrong, because the data that would have informed it was locked behind a boundary nobody had the authority, the mechanism, or the appetite to cross. Different network. Different classification. Different partner. The data existed. It could not move.

That is the problem Orbis solves. You have to be able to speak to it from experience, not from a briefing. Recent and relevant, not a career that ended a decade ago.

Travel: 30–40% globally, CONUS and OCONUS, frequently on short notice.

Key Responsibilities

  • GROW. Serve as principal technical strategist for Orbis’s international and commercial portfolio, shaping solution strategy and positioning Catalyst, Pulse, and Discovery to win new business.
  • LEAD. Own the technical standards governing end-to-end delivery across international and commercial programs, serving as final technical approver on solution designs and driving programs to on-time, on-budget, on-mission delivery.
  • MANAGE. Own program-level accountability for technical quality and client satisfaction, and lead and develop technical delivery leads and solutions architects, including the Principal Solutions Architect.
  • CONNECT. Build trusted relationships with senior technical stakeholders across allied-nation defense and intelligence organizations, commercial partners, and industry peers, representing Orbis executive leadership internationally.
  • EVOLVE. Evaluate emerging technology for integration into Orbis solutions and shape product prioritization with Product Managers based on client feedback and market demand.

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years of combined operational and technical experience across defense, intelligence, international, or commercial technology programs
  • Meaningful time in special operations, the intelligence community, or federal law enforcement, such as USSOCOM and its subordinate commands.
  • Recent and relevant operational exposure; able to speak to current mission problems, current clients, and current technology in the same conversation
  • Direct experience with the data access and sharing problem: information that could not reach the operator or analyst who needed it, and what that cost
  • 5+ years in a senior technical leadership role (VP Engineering, Principal Architect, Chief Engineer, or equivalent) with direct ownership of delivery, technical strategy, and client relationships
  • Current passport and the personal flexibility to travel on days’ notice
  • Active TS/SCI required

Desired Qualifications

  • Delivery to allied-nation, coalition, or Five Eyes partners
  • Senior relationships across international defense, intelligence, or partner-nation organizations
  • Modernization of tactical networks, C4ISR, or enterprise communications architectures for defense, special operations, or coalition customers
  • Senior executive experience (CTO, Chief Engineer, or equivalent) leading technological transformation at USSOCOM, USASOC, or a service-level command
  • Operating in disconnected, degraded, or bandwidth-constrained environments
  • Substantive command of moving data across network and domain boundaries under policy control: cross-domain and multi-level security, zero-trust architecture, coalition data sharing, and why governance and data flow cannot be solved separately
  • Informed judgment on AI, data pipelines, and automation, including where AI accelerates a decision cycle and where it introduces risk a mission cannot absorb
  • Systems-level architecture judgment with proven delivery of enterprise-scale platforms for defense, intelligence, international, or commercial customers
  • Gravitas and business acumen sufficient to advise both executive leadership and senior client stakeholders
  • Active TS/SCI required; CI or FS polygraph preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods at a computer with routine video and in-person meetings; primarily sedentary with occasional standing and movement
  • Regular use of standard office equipment; ability to read a screen for extended periods
  • Clear verbal communication in person, by phone, and by video
  • Occasional lifting up to 10 pounds
  • Ability to travel 30–40% globally on short notice, including to austere or non-permissive locations

Orbis Benefits

Beyond the opportunity to work alongside practitioners who have operated at the mission edge, joining Orbis means real ownership over outcomes that matter — the chance to build technology that gives the United States Government and its allies a genuine decision advantage, not just another dashboard. From competitive retirement matching to a PTO policy that encourages real time off, we're committed to creating an environment where our team can do their best work and still have a life outside of it.

Our comprehensive benefits package is designed to meet the diverse needs of our employees and their families. A full list of benefits is shared with candidates following an initial conversation with our HR team, so you'll have a clear picture of the support and resources available to you as part of the Orbis team.

Orbis Locations

Orbis works in whatever arrangement the mission requires. Depending on the role, that might mean five days a week on a customer site, full-time in one of our offices, a hybrid schedule, or fully remote work — our team is spread across 25 states and four countries to match. We make sure every team member has the tools and access needed to do the work, wherever that work happens.

Travel is common across many Orbis roles, particularly those supporting customer missions in the field.
