Position Summary
Butcher Power Products (BPP) is seeking a highly experienced and hands-on Vice President, Technical Services to serve as a senior technical leader supporting Panelmatic's low-voltage (LV) and medium-voltage (MV) electrical products and systems. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer of Panelmatic, this executive role is responsible for strengthening technical excellence throughout the entire product lifecycle, from sales engineering and design through manufacturing, testing, commissioning, field service, and customer support.
The Vice President, Technical Services will partner across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales Engineering, and Field Service to establish technical standards, improve quality and consistency, reduce supply chain risk, and build organizational technical capability. This individual will serve as a trusted technical advisor, mentor, and problem-solver while creating scalable processes that improve performance, reliability, and customer satisfaction across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Engineering Excellence
- Serve as the senior technical authority for low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical products and systems.
- Provide technical guidance and problem-solving support for complex engineering, design, application, and product challenges.
- Review engineering submittals and technical documentation to identify risks, errors, and improvement opportunities prior to customer release.
- Establish engineering review standards, quality checkpoints, and technical best practices that improve design consistency and accuracy.
- Support root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives to address recurring engineering challenges.
- Serve as a technical escalation resource for complex customer applications and product requirements.
Testing, Quality & Product Reliability
- Develop and standardize testing procedures, quality standards, acceptance criteria, and testing methodologies.
- Partner with Quality and Manufacturing teams to implement sustainable and repeatable quality processes.
- Drive improvements in first-pass yield, testing effectiveness, and product reliability.
- Investigate complex quality concerns and testing failures while implementing corrective and preventive actions.
- Leverage lessons learned from manufacturing, commissioning, warranty claims, and field performance to improve future product performance.
Component Standardization & Supply Chain Optimization
- Lead component standardization initiatives across electrical product portfolios.
- Establish preferred and approved component strategies to improve availability, consistency, and scalability.
- Partner with Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Product Management to reduce unnecessary product variation.
- Identify acceptable component alternatives to mitigate long lead times and supply chain disruptions.
- Drive disciplined component selection practices that reduce engineering rework, manufacturing delays, and inventory complexity.
Sales Engineering & Pre-Order Technical Support
- Collaborate with Sales Engineering to evaluate complex projects before order placement.
- Identify long-lead and critical components early in the sales cycle.
- Provide technical guidance regarding customer specifications, equipment configurations, and application requirements.
- Support development of preliminary bills of material (BOMs) and recommend technically sound alternatives when appropriate.
- Ensure customer commitments align with engineering capabilities, design standards, and operational objectives.
- Establish proactive processes that identify potential supply chain and technical risks before they impact production schedules.
Technical Training & Organizational Capability Development
- Develop and deliver technical training programs for engineers, technicians, assemblers, testers, field service professionals, and other technical personnel.
- Support development of expertise in relay programming, protection and control systems, SCADA technologies, and related electrical systems.
- Create technical standards, documentation, procedures, and training materials that institutionalize organizational knowledge.
- Mentor and coach technical team members while strengthening internal technical capabilities.
- Promote knowledge sharing and succession planning to reduce dependence on individual subject matter experts.
Commissioning & Field Technical Services
- Provide technical leadership for equipment startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and customer support activities.
- Support complex commissioning projects and field service initiatives when specialized expertise is required.
- Establish commissioning standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Evaluate and qualify third-party commissioning and service providers.
- Ensure field activities are executed safely, professionally, and in accordance with established standards.
- Use commissioning and field performance insights to drive continuous improvement across engineering, testing, manufacturing, and service operations.
Customer Technical Partnership
- Consult directly with customers regarding technical requirements, specifications, applications, and system configurations.
- Participate in customer-facing technical discussions and project reviews.
- Translate customer needs into practical, manufacturable, and supportable solutions.
- Help resolve complex technical challenges while balancing performance, cost, availability, manufacturability, and schedule requirements.
- Strengthen customer confidence through technical expertise, responsiveness, and professional partnership.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Extensive experience supporting low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical distribution equipment, switchgear, switchboards, control systems, or similar engineered electrical products.
- Deep understanding of electrical design, manufacturing, testing, startup, and commissioning processes.
- Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems, relays, controls, automation, and SCADA platforms.
- Experience developing testing standards, quality procedures, and technical operating processes.
- Strong understanding of electrical component selection, BOM development, and standardization strategies.
- Demonstrated success troubleshooting complex electrical systems in manufacturing and field environments.
- Proven experience training, mentoring, and developing engineers, technicians, and technical professionals.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with customers, suppliers, technical teams, and senior leaders.
- Ability to travel as needed to customer sites, manufacturing facilities, and project locations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Experience supporting engineered-to-order (ETO) manufacturing environments.
- Experience leading technical services, field service, commissioning, or engineering excellence functions within a power distribution, switchgear, or electrical equipment manufacturing environment.
- Expertise in utility, industrial, commercial, mission critical, or data center power distribution applications.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to visit manufacturing facilities, testing areas, customer sites, and construction environments.
- Ability to conduct equipment inspections and observe testing and commissioning activities.
- Ability to travel by air and automobile as required.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
Travel Requirements
- Travel approximately 25% to 50%, depending on business needs, customer requirements, commissioning activities, and project support needs.
The base pay range for this role is $220,000 – $280,000 per year.
