The Vice President of Private Equity is a key member of BMO’s Community Capital Solutions team, which invests the Bank’s balance sheet in Private Equity Funds with a Small Business Investment Company (SBIC) license from the U.S. Small Business Administration. The private equity funds are managed by financial sponsors that invest in lower middle market companies across the United States. The Vice President supports day‑to‑day value creation on designated LP investments, all of which support BMO's Community Reinvestment Act objectives. The Vice President fosters a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values and strategy and role models BMO values and behaviors in all that they do.
This role requires 4 days in the office hybrid schedule.
Asset Management (~80%)
Own accountability for 35-40 LP investment files as the primary point person; set the agenda
with partners and drive outcomes on complex situations.
- Coordinate execution for acquisitions, dispositions, refinancing, and other strategic initiatives related to assigned files
- Track carrying values, exposure and oversee risk analysis required to prepare decision-ready updates
- Co-lead file completion and documentation
- Present investment/monitoring materials to committees
- Prepare and review portfolio forecasts, dashboards and recurring performance materials
- Oversee quarterly reporting and valuation for portfolio
- Synthesize insights for BMO senior stakeholders
- Work alongside BMO Commercial, BMO Capital Markets Legal, Tax, Finance, Risk and Accounting Policy
- Maintain oversight of project bank accounts and process capital calls
Growth, Investments & Other (~20%)
- Selectively diligence new opportunities
- Responsible for preparing select investment recommendations to the Investment Committee
- Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed
Qualifications:
- Typically, between 5 - 7 years in investing/finance roles, including specific experience with investing in SBIC Funds, as a limited partner
- An undergraduate degree. Focal areas of finance, economics, or accounting preferred with high academic achievement.
- MBA, CFA or equivalent experience in financial services, accounting, or legal fields.
- Demonstrates the ability to drive a positive work-place culture
- Exceptional Excel/PPT; able to step in and perform individual analysis when required
- High detail orientation and organizational excellence
- Use strong interpersonal skillset to form positive internal and external working relationships
- Ability to work both independently and as a team member
