Wells Fargo is seeking a Vice President to support CIB Banking's Energy & Power Portfolio Management team with a focus on Power and Utilities. The role will be responsible for leading credit underwriting, portfolio monitoring, financial analysis, risk rating assessment, and transaction execution for a portfolio of loans to investor-owned utility companies spanning regulated electric, gas, and water sub-sectors.
Wells Fargo's Power and Utilities business is an integral part of the Energy and Power group providing financing, capital markets and advisory services to investor-owned utilities and independent power producers. The group is a market-leading franchise with top-ranked positions in debt and equity capital markets and a longstanding commitment to serving clients across the North American power sector.
In this role, you will:
  • Lead credit underwriting and ongoing monitoring for a portfolio of investment-grade and crossover-rated utility borrowers with complex capital structures and significant financing requirements
  • Perform detailed financial statement analysis, industry analysis and projection modeling to support underwriting recommendations, ongoing monitoring activities, and risk rating assessments
  • Monitor borrower performance and provide ongoing market intelligence on utility credit trends, regulatory developments, financing markets, and emerging risks affecting the Power & Utilities portfolio
  • Develop and defend independent credit recommendations and risk ratings before Independent Risk Management
  • Lead coordination and execution of loan closings ensuring satisfaction of all booking, legal documentation and compliance requirements
  • Review and interpret credit policies and procedures and incorporate requirements into credit analysis, risk observations, and monitoring activities
  • Assist with coordination and preparation for borrower and portfolio reviews, internal and external exam responses, and other portfolio governance requirements
  • Represent the bank in maintaining relationships with clients, including treasury and finance teams
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, internal partners, stakeholders, and clients
  • Mentor, train, and develop junior team members
Required Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of Experience in CIB Portfolio Management, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
  • Portfolio management, credit underwriting, or risk management experience with large corporate clients
  • Experience covering regulated utilities or independent power producers
  • Familiarity with utility financial statements, regulatory frameworks, rate cases, capital expenditure programs, capital structure analysis, liquidity assessment, and rating agency methodologies
  • Ability to identify, evaluate, and communicate key credit risks and mitigants
  • History of exercising sound judgment and making timely decisions in a fast-paced and results-driven environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present credit views to senior leaders, risk partners, and coverage teams
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong accounting skills and ability to analyze financial statements
  • Experience with training and developing less tenured colleagues
  • Experience in building partnerships, collaborating across lines of business, and effectively communicating at all levels of an organization
Job Expectations:
  • Obtaining and/or maintaining appropriate Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) license(s) is required for ongoing employment in this position. FINRA Series 63 and 79 examinations, or equivalent must be completed within either a 90 or 180-day time period following commencement of employment, depending upon the number of license(s) needed if not immediately available to transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted. This will be communicated at time of offer acceptance. Compliance with state law registration and licensing requirements is mandatory. In addition to state registration and licensing requirements, specific product licenses or SAFE licensing may apply. Additional requirements include meeting enhanced financial fitness and criminal background standards. Wells Fargo will initiate the FINRA licensing review process at the time of offer acceptance. For specific FINRA qualification exams obtained after 9/30/2018, the Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam co-requisite is required.
  • This position is subject to FINRA background screening requirements. Candidates must successfully complete and pass a background check prior to hire. In accordance with FINRA rules, individuals who are subject to statutory disqualification are not eligible to be associated with a FINRA-registered broker-dealer. Successful candidates must also meet and comply with ongoing regulatory obligations, which include periodic screening and mandatory reporting of certain incidents.

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
