MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Master’s degree in Health Administration, Business Administration, Nursing, or other related degree.
EXPERIENCE:
1. Ten (10) years of healthcare experience with Five (5) years of progressively responsible administrative experience.

1. Administratively responsible for direction of all aspects of the following for both hospitals (SRMC and BCMH): SRMC ECF, Facilities & Engineer, Security, EVS (Housekeeping), Laundry, Nutrition, Medical Staff Affairs (MSA), Rehab (PT, OT, and ST), Radiology, Lab to assure a Hospital environment that is consistent with the clinical objectives of all three Hospitals. Directs operations activities through hospital administration and directors.
2. Achieves operating and financial objectives, oversees the quality of service, provide leadership for each area in adapting to economic, technological, and regulatory changes, and for responding effectively to patient, physician, employee and organizational needs define by the West Virginia Health Care Corporative and its two hospitals (SRMC and SRMC ECF) and BCMH.
3. Ensures that all three organizational entities’ activities and operations are carried out in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and laws governing business operations.
4. Develops and installs procedures and controls to promote communication and adequate information flow within all three organizational entities.
5. Works closely with the medical leadership in developing goals and objectives for all three organizational entities.
6. Communicates regularly with the medical staff members to insure that their needs are being met and issues are being resolved appropriately.
7. Works closely with the President, medical staff, and management team, the VP of Operations will develop and implement operating objectives as well as institute plans for the future development of programs and services for all three organizational entities.
8. Provides as a personal example of the principles of continuous quality improvement whereby decision-making is driven by data and customer relationships and is facilitated both within and outside all three organizational entities.
9. Establishes a management environment that promotes communication and a team spirit among management, encourages direct problem solving among senior staff, and promotes information flow within the organization.
10. Establishes and leads in the monitoring of key financial and operational performance indicators by department.
11. Participates in the medical staff committee structure and monthly financial reviews with the President and other members of the senior management team.
12. Assists the President and CEO with special projects that have an emphasis in the area of hospital operations and long-term nursing home operations and integration of services across all three organizational entities. The projects will typically involve both medical staff and administrative personnel.
13. Maintains and enhances the culture and values of the organization, which provide the setting for outstanding patient/customer satisfaction.
14. Participates in professional associations as well as community activities.
15. Attends Medical Staff meetings, Board of Directors meetings and, where appropriate, will represent to all three organizational entities with outside organizations and government agencies and serve as the hospital administration representative in lieu of the President and CEO or VP Finance when the President and CEO or VP Finance is unable to participate/attend.
16. Conducts all of the above in a fashion that is consistent with the mission, values, philosophies, and policies of the WVU Medicine and WV Health Care Corporative and BCMH.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. High level of ambition with a strong personal drive and keen sense of urgency. Good business judgment and instincts are important along with a high level of integrity. This person must have a proven ability to implement strategic plans and to proactively “make things happen”.
2. Thorough ability to grasp and understand the healthcare industry and a proven track record of having successfully positioned hospitals to compete cost effectively within a mature market.
3. Experience should include significant tenure in a hospital management position with heavy involvement in operations of both service and clinical departments in an environment that encourages partnering with medical staff.
4. Demonstrated abilities in the following areas: revenue growth, physician relations and recruitment, continuous quality improvement, customer service, cost containment, employee relations, recruitment/retention, strategic planning, facility construction and program development.
5. Strong relationship building skills.
6. Experience developing the concepts and working with clinical service line management
7. Significant experience in partnering with medical staff leadership in developing innovative methods to control costs and maintain high quality care.
8. Background in implementing continuous quality improvement and process improvement programs.
9. Basic knowledge in hospital reimbursement, managed care, and hospital operations.
10. Prior experience in speaking before audiences and dealing with community and business leaders. Good communication skills and the ability to adapt to an audience are essential to this position.
11. Must have a good track record in negotiating with individual physicians and physician leadership.
12. Extensive experience in operating within a team that brings different backgrounds and expertise together to solve problems. Demonstrated track record of successfully developing and maintaining trust within a team setting and must be comfortable in a collaborative environment. Team building skills are essential.
13. Self-starter, detail-oriented, who does not mind multiple task/project undertakings.
14. Ability to quickly assess a problem and determine a course of action without delay.
15. Ability to articulate an opinion, but be able to support group decisions even when they may not reflect a preferred approach.
16. Ability to communicate effectively with medical staff, administrators, clinical staff, employees, and patients.
