Position Summary:
The Vice President of Learning and Development (L&D) is responsible for developing and executing a forward-thinking enterprise-wide learning strategy aligned with the company’s business goals, culture, and growth trajectory that delivers professional growth. This executive leader will oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of innovative training and development programs across field, supply chain operations, and corporate ensuring all team members—from front-line to executives—are equipped to drive performance, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence. The scope of this role is high-impact with the expectation to shape the future of the O’Reilly workforce and directly contribute to the Company’s growth, innovation, and competitive advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership
- Lead the vision and execution of a best-in-class learning and development function that supports organizational transformation and continuous capability building.
- Partner with executive and senior leaders to identify key business challenges and translate them into targeted learning initiatives.
- Drive alignment between learning programs and business strategy, including performance, sales, leadership development, customer experience, and digital transformation.
Learning Programs & Content Development
- Oversee development and deployment of scalable, high-impact learning solutions, including onboarding, leadership development, functional training, and compliance.
- Introduce and champion modern learning methods (e.g., digital learning, mobile learning, microlearning, simulations, on-demand platforms).
- Ensure that learning content is tailored for diverse roles including store team members, field management, distribution center team members, and corporate functions.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Design and implement enterprise leadership development frameworks, including executive coaching, high-potential programs, and succession planning support.
- Strengthen internal career pathways and foster a culture of growth, feedback, and continuous learning.
Team & Budget Management
- Lead and develop a high-performing L&D team including instructional designers, program managers, facilitators, and LMS administrators.
- Manage and optimize the L&D budget, ensuring return on investment and cost-effective delivery.
Technology & Analytics
- Oversee enterprise learning technology strategy, including Learning Management System (LMS), learning experience platforms (LXP), and other tools.
- Use analytics to measure the effectiveness of training programs, learning adoption, business impact, and make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
Change Management & Culture
- Partner with HR, Operations, and Communications to drive change initiatives and promote a culture of continuous improvement and engagement.
- Act as a change agent and role model for learning and leadership development across the organization.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a related field preferred.
- 10+ years of progressive leadership in Learning & Development, with at least 5 years in an executive role in a large, complex, customer-facing organization.
- Experience in retail or similar high-volume service environments highly desirable.
Skills & Competencies
- Strategic thinker with a strong business acumen and the ability to align learning initiatives with enterprise objectives.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence senior stakeholders.
- Expertise in adult learning theory, instructional design, digital learning technologies, and leadership development.
- Strong analytical and project management skills.
- Excellent communication and executive presence.
