About the Role
Mastercard is looking for a strategic, dynamic, and results-oriented leader to serve as Vice President for Government (Public Sector), Acceptance & Partners. This is a high-impact role, shaping the acceptance network, fostering meaningful partnerships, and driving innovative solutions across Northern Europe. The role spans nine markets (Nordics, Baltics, and the Netherlands) and reports directly to the President of Northern Europe, with a dotted line to the Public Sector Lead for Europe.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
• Develop and implement strategies to expand Mastercard’s acceptance network, enhance partnerships and drive the Governmental business (not Public Policy, that is handled by a separate team who you will work closely together with) within Northern Europe.
• Align business development efforts with divisional and global priorities to maximize revenue growth and market penetration.
• Serve as a strategic advisor to the leadership team on acceptance, partner, and government-related business initiatives.
Business Development overall
• Drive acceptance growth by identifying and pursuing opportunities to increase Mastercard’s presence in existing and new areas where payments are or should be accepted.
• Drive the sales to the Government sector by leveraging current Mastercard offerings and to define the future need of this segment enabled by new products or partnerships
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new business models and innovative acceptance solutions.
• Lead financial modeling and business case development for acceptance, partnership and Government opportunities.
Government Engagement (Public Sector) deep dive
The Public Sector role focuses on aligning Mastercard’s products, services and ecosystem capabilities to solve for the challenges Government clients face today in the areas of financial inclusion, citizen services, economic development and government operational excellence.
• Develop and execute the Division Public Sector strategy starting from understanding local, regional and global priorities, engaging Division leadership to prioritize clients and solution opportunities relevant for the Division, developing a solid projects pipeline and driving conversion over time to secure new revenues.
• Identify and pursue the prioritized business development opportunities leveraging Mastercard assets through collaboration with Governmental entities and external private partners who can act as channel partners.
• Secure global, regional and local resources to execute on the opportunities and drive marquee wins.
• Develop and execute strategies to enhance Mastercard’s presence in government-led initiatives, fostering acceptance and innovation.
• Partner with government bodies to promote policies and frameworks that enable greater adoption of Mastercard solutions.
Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement
• Cultivate and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders, including government bodies, regulators, and industry associations.
• Lead negotiations and discussions with partners to secure agreements that align with Mastercard’s strategic goals and that complement Mastercard to become even more locally relevant.
• Represent Mastercard in external forums to advocate for policies and initiatives that support business growth and innovation.
Operational Excellence
• Oversee pipeline management and ensure the efficient execution of business development activities.
• Evaluate and enhance the deal process to deliver improved outcomes and streamlined execution.
• Track and report on the progress of acceptance, partnership, and government initiatives, using data to inform strategic decisions.
Team Leadership
• Lead and inspire a team of specialists focused on acceptance, partners, and government activities.
• Provide mentorship and direction to ensure alignment with Mastercard’s vision and priorities.
• Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team.
• Work in close partnership with other functions and country leads to align with Mastercard overall agenda and to maximize total value for Mastercard and its customers

• Strategic Expertise: Proven experience in developing and executing business development strategies within complex, multi-country environments.
• Market Development: Deep understanding of payment acceptance, financial services, and partnership ecosystems.
• Government Relations: Extensive experience engaging with governments, regulators, and industry bodies to influence policies and create business opportunities.
• Leadership: Strong ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated success in driving revenue growth through innovative partnerships and acceptance solutions.
• Project Management: Exceptional organizational and execution skills to manage multiple priorities effectively.
