Your role at a glance

We are seeking an experienced and visionary Vice President of Global Energy Management to join our team. The ideal candidate will have over 15 years of experience in the power and utilities sector, with a proven track record of strategic leadership and team management. This role is critical in shaping our energy management program for operating assets.
The ideal candidate will be a creative, detail-oriented problem solver with excellent communication skills that can achieve high quality standards while carefully considering cost and feasibility factors. This person should possess good judgment to meet company objectives, with the ability to collaborate and manage the accountabilities of a diverse interdisciplinary team focused on creating and maintaining the best Data Center environments in our industry.
An important factor for this position is that the individual has an understanding of the global data center energy management market trends. The use of cutting-edge technologies, such as AI-driven monitoring systems and energy-efficient power distribution solutions, to optimize energy consumption and enhance the overall reliability of data center operations is one piece of how we continue to innovate.

What we are looking for

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive energy management strategy that aligns with the company's long-term goals and objectives. Liaison with external groups in realizing the strategy. 

  • Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of high-performing utility program managers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Project Oversight: Oversee the execution of energy management programs and the implementation of uniform standards, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with internal and external stakeholders, including engineering, construction, and operations teams, to prepare for the seamless transition from project delivery to operational status

  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with energy management, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in the power and utilities sector, driving innovation and continuous improvement within the team.

  • Process Development: Develop, refine, and implement processes and strategies for new energy practices.

  • Utility Agreements: Support the process to obtain and secure utility power connection agreements and interact with utilities throughout the life of the project where grid is the source of primary power

  • Project Support: Provide support to delivery teams across the company's portfolio of projects to analyze design impacts and alternatives on costs and drive timely realization.

Construction Interface: Ensure that the team executes the successful transition of a facility and the handover  of all documentation from the construction team and provide support and introductions to utility contacts to foster a collaborative environment in GID.

KNOWLEDGE & ATTRIBUTES

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Power Systems, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.

  • 15+ years of experience in the power and utilities sector, with a focus on data centers or similar infrastructure.

  • Strong knowledge of energy wholesale and retail markets, power pricing, building codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.

  • Excellent leadership, team management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and collaborate with global teams.

  • Understanding of engineering principles and best practices.

  • Proven experience implementing processes in rapid growth environments and operating in compliance with global regulations.

  • Skilled in creating collaborative environments, organizing meetings, and possessing strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Proven track record of strategic leadership and team management.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards related to power and utilities.

  • Manage energy-related capital and operational budgets and supervise external contractors who perform critical facility maintenance.

  • Maintain compliance with local and federal energy codes and reporting requirements

  • Proven track record in stakeholder engagement planning for energy management plans

  • Track key metrics such as PUE, consumption of electricity and, where applicable, natural gas.

  • Consolidate data from smart sensors, utility bills and monitoring systems to provide actionable insights

  • Has been involved in strategic sourcing of electrical power from suitable sources.

  • Liaise with local utility providers and manage interactions with ISOs/RTOs and participating in auxiliary services such as Demand Response with electricity suppliers, ensuring favorable terms and conditions and timelines that align with build plan.

  • Conduct routine energy audits to spot power quality issues, prevent equipment failure and optimize uptime..

  • Understanding of load forecasting to aid the expansion team planning and tracking future electricity demand to optimize power procurement and ensure adequate supply.

  • Proven record of cost optimization seeking opportunities to reduce electricity costs through strategies like demand response, phased development options and energy storage.

  • Knowledge of GIS planning for sourcing and forward planning of power availability. Proven record of engagement with DSO & TSO organizations and navigating their application processes.

ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or related field.

  • Strong working acumen with CSA and MEP systems development; Architectural, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering education or experience is a plus.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive experience (15+ years) in design of critical facilities and/or complex infrastructure, preferably in a leadership role within the design industry.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Primarily sitting with some walking, standing, and bending.

  • Able to review construction site and activities.

  • Able to hear and speak into a telephone.

  • Close visual work on a computer terminal.

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate any required to operate computer keyboard, mouse, and other technical instruments.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

Work conditions & other requirements

  • This is a global role, which will require up to 15% international travel and regular collaboration and meetings across the world.

  • Extensive daily usage of a computer or workstation.

  • This position is expected to be remote with travel approximately 15% of the time.

  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

  • Must be willing to work to support a global business.

Compensation Pay Range

"This is a remote position that requires reliable internet connection and electricity. A monthly stipend is provided to cover expenses associated with working remotely and use of a personal mobile device.
NTT Global Data Centers Americas, Inc. offers competitive compensation based on experience, education, and location. Base salary for this position is $309,000 - $402,000.
All regular full-time employees are eligible for an annual bonus; payout is dependent upon individual and company performance.

Skills Required
