We are seeking a hands-on and strategic Vice President of Finance to lead the financial operations of our credit union. This is a working leadership role tasked with overseeing finance, accounting, and investment functions, ensuring compliance, and supporting member service through sound fiscal management. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with the ability to collaborate across teams and engage with our Board Members.
Responsibilities:
- Lead all aspects of financial operations including accounting, audit, budgeting, investments, tax, purchasing, insurance, and real estate.
- Manage daily and monthly accounting operations including cash balancing, general ledger entries, month-end and quarter-end closings.
- Oversee and ensure accuracy in financial and statistical reporting; prepare board-ready reports using internal systems and Excel.
- Serve as the primary contact for annual audits and work directly with CPAs to provide data, address recommendations, and ensure audit readiness.
- Direct the Credit Union’s investment strategy and execution, focusing on low-risk, government-guaranteed investments (e.g., MBS, US Treasuries).
- Review and sign off on accounts payable transactions and GL assignments; ensure appropriate internal controls and policy compliance.
- Collaborate with senior management to develop capital plans and operating budgets; analyze departmental budgets for alignment with strategic goals.
- Oversee compliance with financial regulations; lead the preparation of reports for regulators and the Board.
- Participate in information security initiatives, contributing to data integrity and safe financial practices as part of the infosec task force.
- Continuously evaluate and improve operational procedures for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Serve as a key liaison to the Credit Union Board Members; prepare financial insights and communicate with professionalism and political awareness.
- Help foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and service within the finance team and the broader Credit Union.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or graduate degree preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive financial leadership experience in a credit union or community bank, ideally at the CFO or VP level.
- Hands-on experience in investment management, financial reporting, budgeting, and audits.
- Proficient in Excel; capable of building and analyzing reports and financial models.
- Robust working knowledge of regulatory reporting and credit union financial operations.
- Experience with general ledger management, accounts payable processes, and internal financial controls.
- Knowledge of information security best practices and data protection in a financial environment.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Adept at communicating financial insights to board members and executive leadership to support strategic decision-making.
