Our mission is to empower the changemaker in all of us. We believe giving should be fun, so you’ll want to do it again, and we also believe that work should be fun, so that you’ll have the greatest impact. We are excited to hear from talented people who want to work with other talented people in making the world a butter place—and have fun along the way.

Role Description

In 2024, Givebutter closed a $50 million strategic growth investment led by BVP Forge, Bessemer Venture Partners’ dedicated investment fund for self-sustaining companies. As Givebutter enters its next phase of growth, the company seeks a seasoned Vice President of Engineering to lead and scale the engineering organization. Reporting to CTO and co-founder Liran Cohen, this highly visible hire will leverage their broad range of leadership and growth stage experience to manage the current team's engineering roadmap, expansion, and maturation and enhance product scalability. As a business-minded technical leader, they will directly shape and grow the teams that deliver products, empowering nonprofits to achieve their most pressing fundraising priorities at scale.

We want to hear from people who...

  • Passionate about leading engineering for a disruptive, category-defining, mission-driven brand.
  • Action-oriented self-starter who can set strategy and business plans with a “roll up the sleeves” approach.
  • Continuously learning and challenging the status quo; you are highly strategic with intellectual horsepower.
  • Articulate and clear communicator with highly developed interpersonal skills, with a transparent and direct communication style to build trust with executive-level relationships.
  • Capable of working with minimal direction and exercises diligence in determining objectives in pursuit of goals; strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership of outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of the technology roadmap that is capable of scale and supports the product and overall business strategy.
  • Recruit, develop and retain top technical talent; define a world-class engineering culture of excellence, positivity, and high energy where engineers can do their best work.
  • Be a champion of engineering and product excellence, establishing KPIs and processes for regular assessment and improvement for the engineering team and technology.
  • Diving into code review when needed (but not coding yourself day-to-day) and contributing to the overall engineering organization from a player-coach perspective.
  • Establish, execute, and achieve the company’s vision and scaling milestones in strategic alignment with business objectives, timeline, user experience, and revenue goals.

Requirements

  • A proven engineering leader with experience within ambiguous, high growth start-up environments.
  • Exceptional technical capability, with deep knowledge of and experience with modern software development practices and technologies.
  • Ability to make technical decisions with the lens of what is best for a fast-growing startup.
  • Experienced in building complex technical solutions with deep knowledge of key architectural principles found in highly scalable systems.
  • Experience building technical strategy and understand technical tradeoffs and risks.
  • An outstanding builder of engineering teams, and a track record of hiring, retaining, and motivating top talent.
  • Player-coach engineering leader with the ability to commit production code.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to create alignment with other leaders and decision-makers in a fast-moving environment.
  • Tenure within a high-growth B2B SaaS business in a team-management position.
  • Experience building high-functioning teams with a “roll up the sleeves” mentality.
  • Experience collaborating closely with business leadership, product, and operations teams to hone product and approach to market.
  • Modern coding philosophy, preferably with experience building in React (frontend), Laravel (backend), on AWS cloud services using PHP (language).
