About the Position

Formation Bio, a tech-driven pharmaceutical company revolutionizing drug development through innovative technology and efficient processes, is seeking VP of Commercial Strategy & New Product Planning. At Formation Bio we license clinical stage assets to develop to the next inflection point and then externally partner the asset for completion of the development and commercialization process. A key success factor in this model is the ability to develop an “acquisition ready” data set that will include the most relevant data that a potential acquirer would require to assess the value of the asset.  A critical part of this is a strategic commercial assessment of the asset. This role will be instrumental in shaping the commercial vision and strategy for each of the assets in our portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of commercial strategies for Formation Bio's pipeline assets
  • Conduct market assessments, competitive landscape analyses, and product positioning studies
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to establish Target Product Profiles (TPPs)
  • Analyze key market trends, unmet medical needs, and potential disruptors in relevant therapeutic areas
  • Contribute to overall portfolio strategy, prioritization, and lifecycle management
  • Generate program assumptions, market sizing, and revenue forecasts for pipeline assets
  • Provide strategic input on asset development and portfolio prioritization decisions
  • Evaluate in-licensing, out-licensing, and partnering opportunities from a commercial perspective
  • Lead commercial due diligence efforts for potential acquisitions or partnerships
  • Develop value proposition narratives and supporting materials for BD activities
  • Design and oversee primary and secondary market research initiatives
  • Analyze market dynamics, patient journeys, treatment paradigms, and payer landscapes
  • Engage with key opinion leaders, advisory boards, payers, and patient advocacy groups to gather insights
  • Work closely with Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, and Regulatory Affairs teams to align commercial strategy with clinical, scientific, and regulatory approaches
  • Identify key clinical evidence necessary to maximize asset value
  • Leverage Formation Bio's tech platforms to inform commercial strategies with real-time clinical trial data and patient insights
  • Identify opportunities to use data analytics and AI to enhance commercial planning
  • Prepare and deliver high-quality presentations to senior leadership and board members
  • Provide strategic recommendations to inform C-suite decision-making on asset development, portfolio management, and company direction
  • Articulate the commercial vision and value proposition of Formation Bio's innovative approach to drug development

About you

  • Advanced degree (MBA, PharmD, or PhD in life sciences preferred)
  • 10 - 15+ years of experience in pharmaceutical/biotech industry, with a strong background in new product planning and commercial strategy,
  • Experience as a member of the sales organization or having led the launch and management of a new drug or new indication of an existing drug.
  • Deep understanding of drug development process, clinical trial design, and regulatory pathways
  • Proven track record in developing commercial strategies for clinical-stage assets
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership

We offer competitive compensation because we want to hire the best people and reward them for their contributions to our mission. We pay all employees competitively relative to the New York City market, regardless of their location. In compliance with NYC’s pay transparency law and in pursuit of pay equity and fairness, we publish salary ranges for all open roles at Formation Bio. The target salary range for this role is $320,00 - $400,000.
