Job Description:

We are seeking an Analyst with expertise in financial services policy and a strong interest in commercial due diligence to support private equity and institutional investor clients evaluating investment opportunities across the financial services sector. This role combines rigorous policy analysis with commercial market assessment to help clients understand how regulatory, legislative, and competitive dynamics impact market attractiveness, growth potential, and investment risk.

Analysts conduct in-depth research on industry trends, competitive landscapes, customer and market dynamics, and policy developments that influence commercial outcomes. They interact regularly with policymakers, industry participants, and investors to develop differentiated insights that inform investment decisions and transaction diligence. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, highly analytical, and experienced in evaluating complex industries through both a commercial and regulatory lens.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with the ability to synthesize complex commercial and regulatory information
  • Experience conducting market research, competitive analysis, commercial due diligence, or investment analysis
  • Ability to develop differentiated perspectives supported by quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong client-facing and relationship management abilities
  • Self-motivation and the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment
  • Interest in the intersection of public policy, regulation, and investment decision-making
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience working with data to support commercial insights

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with a strong academic record
  • At least five years of experience in commercial due diligence, management consulting, investment banking, private equity, equity research, policy analysis, or a related analytical field
  • Experience analyzing the financial services industry is strongly preferred
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident authorized to work without sponsorship

Our Financial Services practice supports clients through transaction diligence, market assessments, and strategic advisory engagements by combining deep sector expertise with differentiated policy insights.

Capstone offers a competitive benefits package, including health, vision, dental insurance, paid vacation, a travel stipend, and a 401(k).

The expected compensation for this role is $135,000–$170,000 annually, plus eligibility for Capstone's annual bonus pool.

This position is based in our Washington, DC office. Capstone operates on an in-office schedule Monday through Thursday, with flexible work-from-home Fridays.
