Overview
The Vice President, Business Development - Retail & Marketplaces, Agentic AI is a senior leadership role responsible for accelerating commercial growth, product adoption, and ecosystem readiness across retail, marketplace, and platform partners in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. The role sits within Mastercard's Product organization and carries a strong commercial and go-to-market mandate. It serves as the primary connector between product strategy, customer engagement, and execution in the field. The VP provides deep product expertise, drives revenue acceleration through integrated solutions, and leads commercialization of Mastercard's priority initiatives including agentic commerce, digital acceptance, security, trust, and AI-enabled experiences. The position has a dual reporting line into the CSC Lead for Australasia and regional product leadership.
Role Purpose• Drive revenue growth, product penetration, and strategic relevance with retail, marketplace, and platform partners across Australasia.• Accelerate adoption of Mastercard's Agentic Commerce capabilities and other priority products through product-led, consultative selling.• Translate global and regional product strategy into scalable, commercially successful execution in the market.• Represent Mastercard's product vision with customers, partners, and ecosystem stakeholders.• Lead and develop product-specialist teams, strengthening capability, collaboration, and talent development across the region.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial Leadership and Revenue Growth• Own senior-level commercial relationships with priority merchants, marketplaces, platforms, and ecosystem partners.• Define and execute product-led sales strategies that support divisional revenue, profit, and pipeline growth targets.• Build, manage, and maintain a strong product-level sales pipeline, ensuring disciplined forecasting and execution.• Develop joint business plans with partners to scale product adoption and long-term value creation.• Work closely with regional account teams, Services, and Acceptance teams to deliver coordinated go-to-market strategies.
Product-Led Business Development• Serve as a senior product evangelist, shaping how Mastercard's solutions are positioned, bundled, and monetized across the retail and marketplace ecosystem.• Provide structured market insights, customer requirements, competitive analysis, and recommendations into regional product prioritization and roadmaps.• Lead commercialization of priority initiatives including Agentic Commerce and Agent Pay, digital acceptance and checkout experiences, tokenization, security, trust, and identity solutions.• Ensure clear articulation of value propositions, segment-specific use cases, and differentiated product narratives for the region.
Agentic Commerce Ecosystem Enablement• Lead ecosystem engagement with merchants, platforms, issuers, acquirers, and technology partners to accelerate readiness for agent-driven commerce.• Champion Mastercard's frameworks for agentic readiness, governance, data integrity, and responsible AI.• Sponsor and scale proofs-of-concept, pilots, and flagship launches that demonstrate real-world value in agentic commerce.• Position Mastercard as the orchestrator of secure, intelligent, interoperable commerce experiences for the region.
Cross-Functional Leadership and Execution• Act as a connective leader across Product, Services, Technology, Franchise, and regional customer teams.• Drive the end-to-end commercialization of complex solutions, ensuring alignment and execution discipline across functions.• Provide executive sponsorship for key customer engagements, strategic programs, and high-visibility initiatives.• Establish clear success metrics, reporting rhythms, and performance accountability across product and commercial workstreams.• Lead, coach, and develop multiple teams or groups, shaping structure, capability, and long-term talent pipelines.
Thought Leadership and Market Influence• Represent Mastercard externally with senior executives, industry bodies, and ecosystem partners.• Contribute to thought leadership on the future of AI-driven commerce, retail innovation, marketplaces, and payments.• Shape Mastercard's regional leadership narrative around trusted, intelligent, scalable commerce solutions.
Scope and Reporting• Geographic remit: Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Islands (Australasia Division).• Reporting line: Dual reporting into the CSC Lead for Australasia and regional product leadership.• Team leadership: Direct management of product-specialist and business development teams, responsible for coaching, capability uplift, and organizational development.
