Vice President, Business Development

Reports to: President, Helios HVACR Services

About Helios HVACR Services

Helios HVACR Services is a national commercial HVACR services platform serving multi-site and national account customers across the United States.

The Helios operating model is different from a traditional branch-based mechanical contractor. Our customers rely on us to deliver consistent service across a national footprint through local field teams. Our technicians work across a broad range of equipment and environments while navigating different customer requirements, service-level agreements, not-to-exceed limits, IVR systems, documentation requirements, and operating protocols.

Executing that model consistently at scale requires a different level of commercial discipline.

Helios has built a strong foundation for its next phase of growth. The opportunity now is to continue expanding our national footprint, increase productive field capacity, strengthen density in priority markets, and win the right customers while maintaining strong margin discipline and an exceptional customer experience.

Helios operates as part of Orion Group, a national network of commercial and industrial service businesses focused on operational excellence, leadership development, and disciplined growth.

Position Overview

The Vice President of Business Development & Growth is the senior commercial growth leader for Helios HVACR Services. This is a hands-on player-coach role responsible for personally creating and closing meaningful HVACR opportunities while building and leading a small, high-performing business development team.

This leader will drive profitable growth by opening new customer relationships, expanding strategic accounts, developing new channels, and ensuring Helios wins the right revenue in the right markets.

This is not a traditional sales management role. Success requires a leader who enjoys being in the market, building executive relationships, creating opportunities before formal RFPs exist, negotiating complex service agreements, and developing a repeatable growth engine.

Key Responsibilities

Personally Drive Profitable HVACR Growth

· Personally originate, develop, negotiate, and close meaningful national and multi-site HVACR opportunities.

· Build executive relationships with facilities, operations, procurement, and other customer decision makers.

· Create opportunities through proactive prospecting, relationship development, and market intelligence.

· Build a qualified pipeline across service, maintenance, and project opportunities.

· Ensure growth meets Helios margin, operational, and serviceability requirements.

Build Density in Priority Markets

· Partner with Operations and Finance to identify priority markets where growth creates the greatest strategic value.

· Focus commercial efforts on opportunities that improve customer density, technician utilization, and operating leverage.

· Evaluate opportunities based on quality of revenue, not simply contract value.

· Challenge opportunities that create unnecessary complexity or cannot be executed profitably.

Expand Existing Customer Relationships

· Partner with Client Management to identify and pursue whitespace opportunities within existing national accounts.

· Expand relationships across geographies, locations, and service offerings.

· Convert strong operational performance into additional customer growth.

Build and Lead a High-Performing Business Development Team

· Recruit, develop, and lead a small team of business development professionals.

· Establish clear goals, KPIs, pipeline expectations, and accountability.

· Personally coach team members while remaining actively involved in strategic pursuits.

· Build a culture focused on hunting, urgency, accountability, and execution.

Develop New Growth Channels

· Identify and develop strategic growth channels, including franchise opportunities, partnerships, and other scalable opportunities.

· Validate opportunities through disciplined pilots before scaling.

· Ensure new channels align with Helios’ operating model and economics.

Protect Quality of Revenue

· Partner closely with Operations, Client Management, and Finance before committing to significant opportunities.

· Ensure pricing, margin, geography, staffing capacity, customer requirements, and operational complexity are understood.

· Avoid “bad wins” that create execution challenges or erode profitability.

Candidate Profile

The strongest candidate will be:

· A proven hunter with measurable success personally originating and closing enterprise HVACR or complex field service opportunities.

· Experienced selling national or multi-site service relationships.

· A builder who has created opportunities rather than relying primarily on inbound leads or RFPs.

· Comfortable selling recurring service relationships, not just projects or equipment.

· Experienced leading a small, high-performing business development team while remaining personally active in selling.

· Commercially disciplined with strong understanding of revenue quality, margin, and field service economics.

· Comfortable operating in a national platform supported by local field execution.

· A low-ego, collaborative leader who partners effectively with Operations, Client Management, and Finance.

Leadership Characteristics

The right leader for Helios will be:

· Hunter first — creates opportunities and opens doors.

· Player-coach — sells alongside the team.

· Commercially strategic — knows where Helios should grow.

· Density minded — understands that where revenue lands matters.

· Operationally grounded — understands the promise made to customers must be delivered.

· Financially disciplined — knows revenue without margin is not a win.

· Hungry, humble, and smart.

What Success Looks Like in 12–18 Months

· Helios has a repeatable business development engine.

· A strong pipeline of qualified national and multi-site HVACR opportunities exists.

· The VP has personally created and closed meaningful new business.

· Business development resources have clear goals, accountability, and operating rhythm.

· Growth is concentrated in strategic markets where Helios can execute profitably.

· Helios continues increasing share of wallet with key customers.

· Revenue growth translates into strong gross margin and operating contribution.
