The Vessel Accountant – Senior Executive is responsible for managing financial accounting, invoice processing, and month-end accounting activities for assigned vessel portfolios within the Fleet operations. This role ensures accurate financial reporting to vessel owners, maintains compliance with maritime accounting standards, and supports the pilot initiative to establish dedicated vessel accounting capabilities. The position offers the opportunity to build specialized maritime accounting expertise with potential for career growth.
· Bachelor’s degree in accountancy, Commerce, Finance, or related field
· Professional accounting certification (CA, CPA, CMA) or in preferred pursuit
- 3-5 yrs experience in preparing financial reports/consolidating financial statements
- Prior Accounts payable experience would be added advantage
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting, invoice workflows, internal controls, and GL coding/cost allocation.
- Strong understanding of month end closure of books, accruals, amortization preferred
- Demonstrated experience processing invoices and managing vendor payments
- Prior experience in maritime, shipping, or logistics industry accounting preferred.
Technical competencies
· Strong understanding of accrual accounting, invoice workflows, internal controls, and GL coding/cost allocation.
· Experience in bank reconciliations, cash management, and vessel accounting concepts (bunker, port, crew costs) preferred.
· Familiarity with Oracle Financials and/or other ERPs (e.g., SAP).
System skills
· Advanced Excel (formulas, pivot tables, lookups).
· Proficient with accounting / ERP systems; quick to learn digitized invoice approval, verification and accounting systems
· Comfortable with email and collaboration platforms (Outlook, Teams).
Soft skills
· High attention to detail and accuracy (>95% first-pass).
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and multi-tasking ability with independent working style.
· Clear written and verbal communication; collaborative, professional, and vendor-facing.
· Deadline-driven, proactive in learning and continuous process improvement.
Training : 1) Financial accounting and accrual-based accounting (degree/professional courses).
2) Oracle Financials (AP, GL, reporting) hands-on training.
3) Advanced Excel (formulas, pivot tables, reconciliations)
4) Vessel accounting fundamentals preferred
Job Responsibilities
