The Verification Specialist will be responsible for obtaining insurance authorizations and verification of eligibility for all clinic appointments through using interface systems, placing calls to various insurances and/or physician offices, and utilizing internet applications for vision and medical referrals/authorizations.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Generate appointment reports daily and determine which appointments require authorization and/or referral
- Access interface programs and place telephone calls for benefit and eligibility information
- Document patient authorizations and benefit data in the practice management system
- Contact primary care physicians for referrals and/or authorization
- Identify and obtain proper benefits for all patients on the schedule
- Contact patients for discrepancies regarding insurance policy identifications
- Facilitate authorizations and imaging appointments for outpatient referrals
- Advise coordinator of problems or trends relating to authorizations and/or referrals
- Adhere to HIPAA regulations concerning patient privacy and confidentiality

Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of electronic data entry
- Ability to use computers, calculators, and programs such as Microsoft Excel, internet, e-mail, and EHR
- Knowledge of recordkeeping and basic accounting
- Ability to manage stress and remain composed in a fast-paced, high-stress environment
- Ability to hear in person and over the phone in various settings
- Knowledge of NextGen (preferred)
- Bilingual in Spanish (preferred)
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma/GED
- Six months to one year of related experience and/or technical school training
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred)
- One to two years of related experience and/or training (preferred)
