The Vehicle Control & Upfit team is responsible for the development and integration of Body controller ECUs and Body Builder/ TEM Interface ECUs. These components interact with many features in the vehicle from Ignition and power management, safety interlocks, lightning, and switches to drivetrain and Vocational topics. We work daily in a global team with MBT, FUSO, Daimler Buses and other Daimler Truck business units. Our engineering team drives innovation by developing cutting-edge software and hardware for next generation trucks. We are seeking a passionate Software Developer Expert Engineer to join our team in Portland, OR, USA, and be part of the technology transformation to a Software Define Vehicle (SDV), leveraging a High-Power Computer (HPC) architecture. What You Drive at DTNA

  • Coordinate and Decompose existing body control ECU features into modular components suitable for distributed processing on the HPC
  • Decomposition must balance modularity with performance, as excessive fragmentation can increase latency
  • Refactoring Software to align with DTOS’s architecture and performance requirements
  • Document each feature’s input/output requirements, processing logic, and real-time constrains
  • Coordinate with VCP and CHEC team the Flex SW component repository in HPC
  • Identify with functional safety team critical features requiring ASIL-B or higher compliance per ISO26262
  • Refactor legacy code to improve modularity, maintainability, and testability.
  • Integrate tools used by Vocational Trucks and Truck Equipment Manufactures into DTOS Ecosystem, enabling seamless interaction with the HPC and supporting diverse truck configurations
  • Define roadmap and execution plan
  • Mentor junior engineers in the team by delegating technical asks and guide them through the resolution.
  • Report to stakeholder.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Software Engineering from an accredited university/college with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in working in a global development organization with teams and colleagues across the world
  • Embedded System Development experience and software design
  • Experience with identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems
  • Experience in using Vector tolls (CANalyzer, CANoe) for troubleshooting
  • Experience in model-based SW development tools and methods, and with AUTOSAR ECUs
  • Experience in developing and analyzing electrical circuits
  • Experience with body control features in the truck
  • Experience leading and mentoring others in identifying/solving the root cause of complex problems is required
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with cross functional and global teams.
  • Knowledge of input/output circuits and signal conditioning for automotive sensors/ actuators.
  • Debugging tools like Vector CANoe and CANalyzer
  • Ability to balance trade-offs between performance, cost, and safety in automotive designs.
  • Working knowledge in automotive communication protocols, including CAN communication, LIN and Automotive Ethernet
  • Ability to document technical concepts clearly (e.g., requirements specs, test reports) for diverse stakeholders
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to address complex technical challenges

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Functional safety ISO26262
  • Cybersecurity development experience
