Are you passionate about indirect taxes and looking to work in a dynamic, international environment? Join our team as a VAT Specialist for our UK and EMEA regions!
📌 Your key responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the main point of contact for all indirect tax-related matters across UK & EMEA, escalating issues when necessary.
- Supporting internal stakeholders by clearly and effectively communicating VAT risks to non-tax colleagues.
- Assisting with VAT audits and tax authority inquiries across the UK and EMEA, including direct communication with tax officers and coordination with external advisors.
- Building and maintaining relationships with global colleagues, including commercial, legal, finance, and operations teams.
- Delivering VAT training sessions to the business and providing basic VAT guidance to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams in the UK and overseas shared service centers.
- Advising on the correct VAT treatment of intercompany transactions.
- Partnering with in-house finance technology and transformation teams on VAT improvement initiatives.
- Providing insight and data for the VAT reconciliation process.
- Managing the CIS process – reviewing data, preparing returns, and submitting them to HMRC.
- Monitoring the compliance calendar and ensuring timely filing of returns in collaboration with external advisors UK and EMEA controllership.
- Identifying reporting and process errors, implementing corrective actions and improvements.
- Maintaining accurate records of VAT registrations.
- Assisting with payments and refunds, including approvals and proper allocation to the correct entities and reporting periods.
- Maintaining and updating VAT codes across systems (e.g., WDY, YARDI), requesting and testing changes, and issuing communications to the business regarding updates.
✅ What we're looking for:
- Solid experience in UK - indirect tax (VAT), ideally in an international context (EMEA exposure is a plus)
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex tax matters to non-experts.
- Strong autonomy and a collaborative approach to working with global teams.
- Experience in handling tax authority interactions and audits.
- Practical knowledge of financial systems and ERP platforms (e.g., YARDI or similar).
