THE JOB:

The Value Stream Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for a designated value stream within the plant, driving performance in safety, quality, delivery, cost, customer satisfaction, and people development. This role champions continuous improvement, operational excellence, and compliance with company policies and regulatory standards. The Value Stream Manager fosters a high-performance, collaborative culture and ensures effective communication and coordination across all levels and functions.

KEY RESPONSIBITIES:

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead, coach and mentor value stream teams, cultivating a culture of engagement, growth and accountability.
  • Develop staffing strategies, oversee hiring, training, cross-training and career development for team members.
  • Promote positive employee relations, actively participate in committees, regularly interact with staff to resolve issues and encourage teamwork and ownership.
  • Guide supervisors and team leaders in the interpretation of company policies, regulatory compliance and performance management.
  • Conduct fair and meaningful performance reviews, provide feedback and manage disciplinary actions, as needed.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Champion plant safety and environmental processes, ensuring adherence to OSHA, ISO and other regulatory standards.
  • Maintain a safe work environment through proactive accident prevention, hazard identification and safety investigations.
  • Ensure all value stream activities comply with company policies, work instructions and documentation requirements.
  • Support and lead initiatives through leading indicators and corrective actions to reduce recordable injuries and promote ISO required continuous improvement opportunities.

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee daily operations to meet production schedules, quality standards and on-time delivery (OTD) goals.
  • Manage budgets, inventory and resources to achieve cost, productivity and margin targets.
  • Implement and monitor standard operating procedures, lean manufacturing principles and 5S/CANDO systems.
  • Track, analyze and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as safety, quality, delivery, productivity and cost.
  • Manage risks and resolve issues affecting safety, quality, delivery and cost.
  • Drive Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), focusing on proactive and preventative maintenance, maximizing equipment effectiveness, eliminating losses and engaging all employees.
  • PM and AM schedules

Continuous Improvement & Lean Initiatives

  • Drive continuous improvement using Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen and Managing Daily Improvement (MDI) practices.
  • Lead and facilitate process improvement events, develop and implement value stream maps and execute improvement plans.
  • Continually benchmark external best practices and implement as appropriate.
  • Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, training competencies and skill matrixes.
  • Coordinate job, skill and compliance training monthly.
  • Identify and eliminate waste, bottlenecks and inefficiencies to optimize workflow and reduce costs.
  • Promote data-driven problem-solving and a culture of innovation.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Establish and manage effective communication channels within the value stream and across functional areas.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, engineering, HR, finance and other departments to align resources and strategies.
  • Report operational performance and improvement progress to senior management.
  • Serve as a liaison between production teams and improvement or support teams.

Customer Focus

  • Ensure customer requirements are met and drive customer satisfaction through quality, delivery and responsiveness.
  • Support new product development and commercialization by aligning operation with business objectives.

Other Duties

  • Ensure compliance with CT-PAT regulations as required.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned to support business objective.

THE PERSON:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Manufacturing or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 7-10 years of manufacturing operations experience, with 5+ years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, facilitation and team-building skills.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, achieve cost and performance goals and deliver results.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); familiarity with SAP preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety, environmental and quality standards (OSHA, ISO, QS9000, AS9100, etc.)
  • Experience in performance management, problem solving and data-driven decision-making.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced degree (M.S., MBA or Engineering/Technical discipline).
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing Certification.
  • Prior P&L ownership experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to access operating areas via stairs/ladders and tolerate hot, cold or dusty environments.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk life/move up to 33 pounds individually and perform repetitive hand/wrist motions.
  • Ability to concentrate, analyze complex problems, develop solutions and make accurate decisions.
  • Effective communication, active listening and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance and move between physical locations as needed.
