The Role
Design and deliver intuitive web experiences and native mobile apps for permitting, inspections, and code enforcement products. The role owns end-to-end UX/UI design, MVP scoping, product judgment, information architecture, visual design, cross-platform consistency, and design-system maintenance. It also enables engineers to ship quality UI independently through shared principles, critique practices, and scalable components. The designer will work autonomously in an ambiguous startup environment and report to the Founder & CEO.
Summary Generated by Built In

Infilla is looking for a UX/UI Designer to design and deliver intuitive web experiences and native mobile apps for code enforcement and inspections products, while scaling design quality and judgment across the company.

Infilla’s mission is to make more housing happen faster by making permitting unremarkable. The U.S. is short 4-7 million homes, and local permitting is one of the top bottlenecks with approvals taking months to years. Infilla is building the modern permitting platform that helps local governments review projects faster, more consistently, and more transparently. Customers include San Francisco, New York City, and the State of Delaware, among others. We’re backed by Basis Set Ventures, Base10 Partners, Urban Innovation Fund, SHAKTI VC, 20Growth, Bloomberg Beta, and 20+ founders/operators who’ve built products at scale.

WHAT YOU’LL DELIVER
  • Design and deliver the Inspections MVP to live customers within 3 months of start, and Code Enforcement within 5.

  • Maintain the Infilla design system after the contractor build, across web and mobile components, so engineers and coding agents implement from it without translation and with minimal drift as new surfaces ship.

  • Enable engineers to independently ship UI that meets the bar through shared design principles, a working critique practice, and a design system that makes the consistent choice the easy one.

WHAT YOU’VE DONE BEFORE
  • You’ve designed, shipped, and iterated on 0-to-1 B2B mobile apps that real users use

  • You’ve independently owned cross-platform, end-to-end designs without a design manager

  • You use AI in the work itself, daily

WHAT YOU’RE GREAT AT
  • Product judgment & scoping - Takes a fuzzy problem and decides what makes the MVP and what waits. Grounds decisions in how the work is actually done rather than in what similar products look like.

  • Design craft - Makes intuitive experiences that hold up in real conditions, across native mobile and dense desktop, from information architecture through visual detail.

  • Systems thinking - Designs products that fit a coherent whole — thinks in models and workflows rather than just screens, and keeps the design system consistent as new surfaces ship.

  • Design enablement - Makes other people better at design without doing the work themselves. Co-creates the principles and holds the bar when engineers ship UI unassisted.

  • Ownership in ambiguity - Makes progress without a spec, a PM, or a clear brief. Decides and moves rather than waiting for the requirements to firm up.

NICE TO HAVE, NOT NEEDED
  • You’ve designed for deskless workers, government staff, or less technology-savvy users

  • You’ve designed AI product surfaces

  • You’ve maintained design systems

  • You’ve designed products that meet WCAG AA 2.1 accessibility standards

  • You have experience with brand design or marketing design work

  • You are a former founder, beyond being a solopreneur or consultant

Research shows women & minorities are more likely to consider themselves unqualified if they don’t meet every single requirement in a job description. This represents what we’re ideally looking for, but everyone is unique. We hire for strengths & potential, not lack of weakness or a perfect resume fit.

DETAILS
  • This is a full-time remote role based in either LatAm. If you'd prefer to start on a contract basis, we're open to that

  • You will join as 2nd designer and report to the Founder & CEO

  • Competitive salary based on experience and working location

  • US-based employee benefits: meaningful equity, healthcare / vision / dental insurance, 401K, and 26 days of PTO including federal holidays

THE PROCESS

We aim to make this happen in 2 weeks:

  1. Initial call with Savanna to assess mutual fit (20 min)

  2. Design portfolio deep dive with Daria to assess design craft (60 min)

  3. Jam session #1 with Phi to assess product judgment & scoping (60 min)

  4. Team day onsite (virtual onsite for remote candidates)
    - Jam session #2 with Carl to assess systems thinking (60 min)
    - Scaling design taste conversation with Brandon to assess design enablement (30 min)
    - Founder conversation with Jenny to assess ownership in ambiguity (45 min)

  5. Reference checks (manager, PM peer, designer peer, engineering peer)

HOW WE WORK
  • Ideas > Hierarchy - Best idea wins regardless of source. Be intellectually honest.

  • Kind > Nice - Share clear, helpful feedback often. Voice your concerns and listen.

  • Courage > Comfort - We do the right thing, even when hard or uncomfortable.

  • Hours > Weeks - Solve it in hours, not "eventually." Speed is our biggest edge as a startup.

  • Fix > Flag - See a problem, own it, and fix it — don't wait for someone else to.
