UX Researcher 

As a User Experience Researcher, you will partner closely with Product Designers and Product Managers to understand the needs, pain points and workflows of our users. The work you do will help influence how we design our features and experiences for the tens of thousands of merchants who use our platform to list, merchandise and sell products to their customers all over the world.

You'll join the Product Design team and work across multiple product areas to create and execute on research plans, recruit target users and conduct primary research, run usability tests and share your findings.

You will plan and conduct multi-method research that answers big questions and helps shape our product experience. You will own research projects end-to-end for your team and are comfortable working with product designers, product managers, engineers and other stakeholders.
 

What you’ll do:

Research and coordinate

  • Conduct generative and evaluative research studies that shape product decisions
  • Partner with designers and product managers to prioritize the right questions and identify research needs; maintain your research roadmap in partnership with product teams
  • Choose and execute on appropriate methodologies, quantitative and qualitative, to address user needs and opportunities during different stages of the product lifecycle, including discovery, ideation and validation
  • Streamline processes and handle logistics around participant recruitment
  • Design research and usability testing plans
  • Conduct user interviews during the discovery phase, concept and validation testing
  • Write research scripts, usability tests and surveys

Synthesize and share 

  • Develop a holistic understanding of the user journey, needs and pain points
  • Synthesize survey and interview results and formulate key takeaways
  • Highlight usability issues and help teams understand how to address them
  • Create content (video clips, blog posts, slide decks) to communicate and present findings to teams
  • Facilitate understanding of merchant needs and pain points to shed light and bring clarity to teams in complex domains
  • Sustain an informed and empathetic organization by evangelizing research insights to product teams and throughout the company as needed

Build the practice

  • Manage our research & intelligence repositories and centralize research artifacts being created by different teams
  • Evangelize and educate other teams on processes and tools to help centralize knowledge and understanding of our users

Who you are:

  • 2-4 years of experience as a UX researcher for a product focused tech company
  • You are a self-starter, who can work independently, prioritize time between multiple projects, and adapt to changing schedules and priorities. 
  • You are not afraid to ask questions and take feedback well. You have a desire to learn
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative user research, including study design, participant recruiting and management, interviewing, analysis and synthesis
  • You have a natural curiosity and enjoy talking to people
  • Have knowledge of experiential research methods and pros/cons of each
  • Experimental mindset, ready and willing to try things and take risks
  • Comfort with working within complex systems
  • Great written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have:

  • Experience with recruiting participants for scientific study or research
  • BA/BS or MA/MS in Human-Computer Interaction, Cognitive Science or Psychology, UX program with certification, or relevant work experience
  • Experience with video editing, software/product development process, statistics, remote testing tools (Google Hangouts, UserTesting.com, Dovetail, etc)
  • Experience working with SaaS products and / or ecommerce
