Role Objective
As our product portfolio grows, we are bridging the gap between design and engineering. We are looking for a UX Engineer who is a front-end specialist with a passion for user-centred design.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering and working at the intersection of Design and Technology, you will be responsible for turning design visions into functional, high-performance code. You will be a key contributor to our Design System, ensuring that our UI components are accessible, reusable, and seamlessly integrated into our engineering workflows. This role is perfect for a developer who cares deeply about the "feel" of an interface—motion, interaction, and accessibility—and wants to help uplift the front-end maturity of a global SaaS platform.
Responsibilities and Duties
Technical UX Implementation
- Bridge Design & Code: Translate high-fidelity Figma designs into clean, modular, and performant front-end code.
- Rapid Prototyping: Build functional, code-based prototypes to validate complex interactions and animations that static tools cannot capture.
- Interaction Design: Fine-tune the "micro-interactions" of our products, ensuring smooth transitions and a premium tactile feel across desktop and mobile.
Design System Engineering
- System Architecture: Lead the technical evolution of the Valocity Design System (Material Design–inspired) within our codebase.
- Component Library: Develop and maintain a scalable library of reusable UI components to ensure visual and functional consistency across all product squads.
- Documentation: Maintain technical documentation for components, ensuring engineers know how to implement them correctly and efficiently.
Collaboration & Delivery
- Engineer Advocacy: Partner with Product Managers and Designers during the discovery phase to provide technical feasibility feedback on proposed designs.
- Front-end Quality: Conduct code reviews with a specific lens on UI/UX fidelity, accessibility standards (WCAG), and responsive behaviour.
- Cross-Functional Alignment: Work closely with Back-end Engineers to ensure seamless API integration with front-end components.
Accessibility & Standards
- Inclusive Design: Act as the champion for web accessibility, ensuring our products are usable by everyone.
- Performance Optimization: Ensure that the front-end layer is optimized for speed and reliability across different regions and devices.
Skills & Experience
- Educational Base: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- Front-End Expertise: 3+ years of professional experience in front-end development, specifically focused on UI/UX implementation.
- Tech Stack: Expert-level proficiency in HTML5, CSS/SCSS, and modern JavaScript (React/Vue/Angular).
- Design Systems: Proven experience building or maintaining a component-based design system or library.
- Responsive Design: Deep understanding of fluid layouts, grid systems, and mobile-first development.
- Portfolio: A portfolio or GitHub repository demonstrating high-fidelity UI work, smooth animations, or design system contributions.
Desirable
- Design Tool Fluency: High proficiency in Figma (specifically how to inspect and export assets).
- Accessibility: Strong knowledge of WCAG 2.1/2.2 standards and ARIA patterns.
- SaaS/Fintech: Experience working in complex data-driven environments like SaaS or Proptech.
- Testing: Familiarity with front-end testing frameworks (e.g., Jest, Storybook, or Cypress).
