Work Schedule 

  • Hybrid (after an initial training period) from our Lake Saint Louis, MO office
  • Hybrid Schedule: Minimum of working 3 days per week in the office and ability to work up to all 5 days a week in the office, as needed
  • Required Days from an Office Location: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 

Position Overview 

Are you a skilled UX Designer ready to take ownership of complex product areas while sharpening your impact as an independent contributor? NISC is seeking a UX Designer 3 to join our design team. In this role, you'll plan and conduct user research, translate insights into actionable design solutions, and collaborate closely with requirements analysts, developers, product managers, and other designers. You'll have the opportunity to refine design systems, contribute to high-fidelity prototypes, and ensure our products deliver intuitive, user-centered experiences. 

This role is best suited for designers who thrive on independent ownership of design problems while actively contributing to a collaborative team environment. 

Essential Duties 

  • Drive UX design for complex product areas, solving advanced user experience challenges with minimal oversight.
  • Conduct user research, usability testing, and surveys; translate findings into clear design improvements.
  • Define user flows, interaction models, and information architecture; create high-fidelity prototypes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure UX vision and product strategy are aligned.
  • Lead and participate in design critiques, offering constructive feedback and incorporating feedback from others.
  • Contribute to and refine the design system to ensure product consistency and scalability.
  • Advocate for user-centered design principles.
  • Provide informal mentorship and feedback to junior designers.
  • Commitment to NISC's Statement of Shared Values.

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

  • 5+ years of professional experience in UX design, with an emphasis on complex product design.
  • Proficiency in AI-assisted design tools (e.g., Claude); experience with traditional design tools (Axure, Figma, Adobe XD) a plus but not required.
  • Solid background in user research, usability testing, and analysis.
  • Ability to organize content effectively for intuitive navigation and usability.
  • Strong presentation and storytelling skills to communicate design rationale.
  • Understanding of iterative design and Agile development practices.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, with ability to partner effectively with developers.
  • Strong knowledge of accessibility best practices (WCAG compliance).
  • Skilled in facilitating design critiques and heuristic reviews.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% as needed to meet project goals. 

Education Preferred 

  • Bachelor's degree in UX Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Web Development, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
