As a Senior UX Designer within the Caterpillar Trimble Control Technologies (CTCT) division, you will champion user-centric design for our machine control products. This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with cross-functional leadership, define product strategy, and deliver intuitive, high-impact solutions that transform how operators work in the construction and mining sectors.

In this role, you will be the primary Design Lead for the Loading product team, directly influencing how users interact with complex, heavy-duty machinery. By translating intricate technical challenges into seamless, accessible workflows, you will make a tangible difference in operator productivity, safety, and efficiency while working at the cutting edge of construction technology.

Key Exciting Responsibilities

  • Drive the overall design direction and strategy for the Loading product team

  • Collaborate with Product and Technical leads to translate complex customer and business needs into prioritised product requirements

  • Develop end-to-end UX solutions that balance user-centric usability with business goals and technical feasibility

  • Lead UX research methodologies, including user testing and persona development, to advocate for optimal usability throughout the product lifecycle

  • Mentor the team in solving complex interaction challenges and creating high-fidelity prototypes for stakeholder review.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 8+ years of professional experience in information architecture, UX research, and interaction design

  • Proven expertise in designing for highly technical or complex products

  • Expert experience with industry-standard design tools like Figma and Miro

  • Demonstrated ability to articulate concepts and collaborate effectively with international teams

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a focus on user-centred design principles

  • Bachelor's degree in a design-related discipline, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.

Bonus Points For

  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment

  • Knowledge of design systems and component libraries

  • Background in Human Factors Engineering or Psychology.

Location: Christchurch, New Zealand (On-site)

Our office in Christchurch, New Zealand (handily located on the Little River Link Cycleway), is the engineering center in our region and home to over 450 staff, offering free parking, an on-site fully featured gym, changing rooms & showers, table tennis, an active social club, and a great team environment where people love working with leading technology solutions.

Travel Requirement: As needed for collaboration, likely only 1-2 weeks per year at maximum.
