We are looking for an experienced Senior UX/UI Designer who combines exceptional hands-on design expertise with solid leadership capabilities. You will lead complex design initiatives while actively contributing to research, user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity interfaces, prototypes, and scalable design systems.
The ideal candidate has a proven track record of creating intuitive, engaging member experiences and transforming complex, large-scale data into clear, actionable interfaces. You will help shape product direction, raise design quality, mentor designers, and collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business stakeholders to deliver measurable user and business outcomes.
This role also requires a forward-looking designer who responsibly applies AI-powered tools, automated workflows, and AI agents to accelerate design and delivery-while maintaining human judgment, data privacy, accessibility, and quality
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Hands-On Design Ownership: Lead end-to-end UX/UI design for complex digital products, from discovery and concept development through detailed interaction design, visual design, prototyping, and implementation review
  • Design Leadership & Quality: Set a high standard for usability, visual craft, consistency, and accessibility. Lead design critiques, communicate actionable feedback, and ensure solutions meet user needs and business objectives
  • Dashboard & Data Visualization Design: Create intuitive, data-rich dashboards and analytics experiences that help users interpret complex information, identify insights, and take action
  • Member Experience: Design cohesive end-to-end journeys, personalized portals, and engagement features that build trust, simplify interactions, and support member retention
  • Product Discovery & Strategy: Lead stakeholder workshops, research synthesis, journey mapping, and concept exploration to define problems, prioritize opportunities, and influence product roadmaps
  • Figma & Design Systems: Lead the creation and evolution of scalable design systems, including reusable components, design tokens, responsive patterns, documentation, and developer-ready specifications
  • AI-Enabled Workflows: Evaluate and apply AI tools and automation to support research synthesis, ideation, wireframing, prototyping, and documentation. Validate outputs and follow organizational privacy and security requirements
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner with Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers, Architects, and business stakeholders across time zones to align priorities, resolve trade-offs, and support efficient delivery
  • User-Centered & Accessible Design: Champion research-informed decisions, inclusive design, and WCAG-aligned accessibility throughout the product lifecycle
  • Mentorship & Team Development: Mentor designers through hands-on guidance, thoughtful feedback, and knowledge sharing to strengthen individual capabilities and overall team quality
  • Design Validation & Outcomes: Use usability testing, product analytics, and user feedback to evaluate solutions and improve adoption, task success, engagement, and satisfaction
  • Implementation Quality: Collaborate closely with engineering during development, conduct design QA, and ensure delivered experiences reflect the intended interaction and visual quality
  • Comply with all applicable Company policies, procedures, and business directives, changes including those relating to work location, team assignments, work schedules, and flexible work arrangements

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in design or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 8+ years of professional UX/UI or product design experience, with a solid portfolio demonstrating hands-on execution, leadership of complex initiatives, and measurable outcomes
  • Hands-on experience with AI-enabled design tools and automated workflows, with the judgment to assess output quality, recognize limitations, and protect sensitive information
  • Solid hands-on UX/UI expertise across information architecture, user journeys, interaction design, visual design, responsive layouts, prototyping, and usability testing
  • Solid experience designing enterprise, SaaS, or other complex web-based products, balancing user needs, business priorities, and technical constraints
  • Experience designing complex data dashboards, analytics platforms, and member- or subscriber-based digital experiences
  • Experience working in Agile or product-led environments with multidisciplinary teams and distributed stakeholders
  • Design system experience, including building, maintaining, and driving adoption of scalable components, design tokens, and reusable UI patterns
  • Accessibility knowledge, including practical application of WCAG-aligned design principles and collaboration with engineering to support accessible implementation
  • Expert-level Figma proficiency, including advanced prototyping, variables, reusable components, shared libraries, design system architecture, documentation, and Dev Mode handoff
  • Data visualization expertise, with the ability to translate complex metrics and workflows into clear, accessible, and actionable experiences
  • Demonstrated design leadership, including owning major projects, guiding design decisions, facilitating critiques, mentoring designers, and influencing cross-functional stakeholders
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain design rationale, build alignment, and navigate ambiguity

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience designing healthcare, pharmacy, or other regulated-industry products, with an understanding of privacy, compliance, and complex user needs
  • Experience designing AI-powered, conversational, or enterprise search experiences
  • Experience leading design across multiple products, workstreams, or distributed teams
  • Experience establishing design governance, critique practices, and quality standards
  • Experience using experimentation and product analytics to connect design improvements to measurable user and business outcomes

At UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone. We believe everyone-of every race, gender, sexuality, age, location and income-deserves the opportunity to live their healthiest life. Today, however, there are still far too many barriers to good health which are disproportionately experienced by people of color, historically marginalized groups and those with lower incomes. We are committed to mitigating our impact on the environment and enabling and delivering equitable care that addresses health disparities and improves health outcomes - an enterprise priority reflected in our mission.
