Charles River is seeking a passionate Robotics Operations Engineer to join our innovative Point Judith, Rhode Island team. This is an opportunity to utilize your hands-on experience working in robotics and UUV technology. You will join a team of dedicated engineers and scientists who are pushing the boundaries of robotics to solve key problems for our homeland.
How you will make an impact:
- Operate UUVs and other uncrewed vehicles to meet customers’ research and engineering goals
- Design and integrate new features and payloads into UUVs and other uncrewed vehicles
- Make design and implementation decisions that maintain the right balance of forward-thinking, project requirements, schedule, and scope
- Work with internal team members and customers to understand project goals and translate those goals into technical requirements
- Interact with customers (e.g., at project kickoff), users, and domain experts to analyze and understand challenges and to develop engineering solutions accordingly
- Contribute to documentation, user guides, and on water test reports
- Contribute technical content to proposals and reports
What you will need:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Robotics, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, etc.) or related field
- An additional 5 years of relevant work experience would be considered in lieu of a degree
- Relevant and demonstrated experience (5+ years preferred) with all of the following (level will be commensurate with demonstrated experience across areas):
- Operating UUVs or other uncrewed platforms
- Building and maintaining UUVs or other uncrewed vehicles
- Designing and fielding custom components (electrical, mechanical, software, etc.) for uncrewed vehicles.
- Working from small and large vessels in the marine environment
- Willing and able to assist in physical installation, fabrication, testing, and troubleshooting of uncrewed platforms
- U.S. Citizenship
- The selected candidate will be expected to possess or successfully be able to apply for a U.S. Government Security Clearance upon being hired
- Candidate should be able to lift 50 lbs
- Work in office at the Wakefield, RI facility with a flexible 9/80 schedule

- Experience setting up and working in Linux computer systems
- Experience using electrical test equipment (multimeters and oscilloscopes)
- Experience with computer networking and network programming
- Experience configuring and programming UUVs
- Experience with MOOS, ROS, or similar
- Experience with FDM and SLA printing
- Experience with soldering or electrical assembly
- Experience with mechanical hardware assembly
- Experience operating forklift or similar
- Experience operating jet drive vessels
- Current USCG License
Salary Range
$100,000 - $160,000
The above salary range is an estimate based on the internal job level(s) for which this role is being considered. The final salary will be decided after careful evaluation of the individual's work experience, education, and overall qualifications. This range does not include the substantial total rewards you are also eligible for as listed below.
