Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Utility Coordinator in Massachusetts. In this role, you will work on complex coordination of utility relocation and adjustments on infrastructure projects. Joining an organization that values teamwork, AECOM can offer collaboratetion with talented colleagues, learn from diverse perspectives, and contribute to meaningful projects.This position will require travel to project sites. 


JOB SUMMARY:

The Utility Coordinator will coordinate utility work between various clients (DOT/County/Private), contractors and third-party utilities. Develops, builds, and maintains a positive and productive relationship with third-party utilities. Works with the client to establish priorities, monitor progress and ensure compliance with the client’s goals and requirements. Participate in utility and roadway meetings to promote issue resolution, prepare status reports, develop and maintain project tracking systems for issues and resolutions, and address utility or roadway needs in a timely manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities will include administration of all aspects of the utility coordination process including the following:
  • Providing utility coordination services for multiple projects with tight design and or construction schedules throughout the state
  • Acting as liaison between engineers, contractors, governmental agencies, utility agencies/owners and the public to resolve utility conflicts
  • Oversee and provide guidance to utility coordinators and design consultants for utility, roadway, and railroad coordination efforts
  • Coordinate with MassDOT roadway design, right-of-way, survey, construction, and maintenance departments
  • Conducting utility coordination meetings, documenting meeting minutes, and maintaining files of all activities for each utility agency
  • Scheduling and attend office, field, and Teams meetings with utility agency owners
  • Performing follow-up of meeting action items to assure effective coordination results
  • Communicating the status of coordination activities via emails, letters, and telephone to keep project team informed
  • Clearly and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Leading and assisting with preparation of contingency plans for unplanned utility events
  • Providing schedule oversight for utility work integrated with the construction schedule
  • Review MassDOT utility permit applications and plans
  • Negotiate design consultant scope and staff hours

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • BA/BS plus 4 years of utility coordination or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Knowledge of utility and roadway construction for the installation or relocation of underground and overhead utilities

Preferred:

  • 6 years experience performing utility coordination in accordance with MassDOT, FHWA, and AASHTO standards, policies, and procedures
  • Experience and knowledge of utility and roadway construction for the installation or relocation of underground and overhead utilities
  • Experience and knowledge of reviewing and understanding Utility Agency/Owner (UAO) design documents, utility specifications, and utility work schedules
  • Experience and proficiency in reading MassDOT Roadway Plans, MassDOT Utility Adjustment Plans, and UAO Construction Plans for water, sewer, gas, communications, and power
  • Experience and knowledge of MassDOT right-of-way and easement requirements related to railroads and utilities
  • Experience and knowledge of the MassDOT plans production process and utility coordination process
  • Design-Build experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Office program applications
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation ORD/SS10, Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat
