The Role

Description

The SR AD, EHS is responsible for leading local EHS entities. This role has end-to-end accountability for executing and/or establishing/implementing the strategy, priorities, results, systems, processes, and targets for respective local EHS Units (including translation of global/regional strategies into local roadmaps and targets).This position has site-wide responsibility to identify and control the risks associated with safety, biosafety, industrial hygiene, and environmental matters. In addition, the incumbent will direct the organization in effectively interpreting, auditing, and deploying safety, hygiene and environmental processes and procedures to meet external regulatory requirements and internal expectations.In addition, position holder is:

  • Accountable for local governance to safeguard uninterrupted service delivery, risk management and compliance of the respective local EHS units.
  • Responsible that a close link between local EHS units and regional/global as well as alignment (both cross-functional and cross-country) is ensured.
  • Accountable for ensuring compliance with global strategies, policies, and standards.
  • Responsible for steering of the site-specific EHS organization, adherence to the agreed governance model, adherence to global and regional standardization guidelines, and development of necessary knowledge and skills to support sites with fast, agile, high quality EHS services.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Directs the resolution of highly complex or unusual business problems under this capability and applies advanced analytical thought and judgment.
  • Ensures cross-functional alignment for problems with multi-functional impacts.
  • Defines local team organization, jobs, and responsibilities, setting and steering objectives, coaching, and developing employees, performance appraisal and is financially accountable for independent budgets.
  • Drives talent management by strengthening job enrichment and empowerment values.
  • Provides counsel, advice, expertise, and knowledge through their team.
  • Provides leadership and direction through managers to execute functional plans and contribute to the development of functional strategy.
  • Enhances BI's ability to identify, influence and prepare for emerging regulatory requirements.
  • Influences regulators at an appropriate level.
  • Implements local strategies and standards.
  • Ensures oversight and provides EHS&S related governance for the respective site(s), BI products (if needed at the respective site), systems, and processes at local level.
  • Provides transparency of risks from non-compliances.
  • Ensures supply and delivery of environmental actions.
  • Steers local EHS Management Team.
  • Accountable for the coordination of EHS&S Audits (incl. Business units and customer faces groups) and the follow-up of CAPA's at local level.
  • Executes Innovation and Digitalization with respect to EHS&S.
  • Translates ideas into projects and drives their implementation with Business Units.
  • Closely cooperates with relevant enabling functions.
  • Implements Corporate Strategies relevant for the function and develop localized approach and ensure local roll-out.
  • Manages local projects and programs.
  • Steers EHS Risk Management at local level.
  • Executes EHS roadmaps for divestures and accountability for Environmental Site Assessments.
  • Maintains the processes to ensure compliance of all relevant EHS&S legislations for BI in the respective area.
  • Develops (including necessary adaptions of existing standards to regional needs) and improves BI's EHS standards supporting the business and future growth.
  • Discovers and leverages internal and external research, benchmarks, and trends to help facilitate business partner discussions about the future of their respective area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental, occupational health and safety or related discipline.
  • In addition to bachelor's degree, a minimum of ten (10) years directly related EHS&S experience in biological manufacturing environment or related environment.
  • Experience must be inclusive of a minimum of six (6) years progressive leadership experience to include leading a team of subject matter experts and/or moderate to complex EHS&S projects/programs.
  • Ability to handle multi tasks and provide the leadership to implement solutions to complex problems using the best available technology.
  • Demonstrated ability in influencing key stakeholders at a local and regional/global level.
  • A thorough understanding of relevant federal/state/local laws and regulations, including EMEA, CDC, OSHA, EPA, and DEA are required. Highly regulated environment (FDA, USDA, EU, DEA).

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
