The Manager, Generative Art Director leads AI-assisted image production at Walmart Creative — turning product briefs into compelling stories through concept, prompt, and execution of high-fidelity, photorealistic visual campaigns, directing AI-generated imagery that bypasses the generic "AI aesthetic" in favor of believable, human-centered storytelling grounded in authentic lighting, composition, depth-of-field, and color. This is a dual-track role: you are both a working practitioner producing brand-right imagery daily and the internal expert defining how the studio's generative pipeline evolves. You report to the Executive Producer of Post Production and collaborate across creative, production, and post production.
About the team:
Walmart Creative's Post Production team spans commercial editorial, VFX, CG, audio, photo retouching, and Generative AI — an integrated group of specialists who bring campaigns from creative brief to finished deliverable at enterprise scale. The Generative AI practice is one of the team's fastest-growing capabilities, producing site imagery, campaign visuals, and social content across every format the brand requires. The team operates from the LA Studio in Los Angeles and functions as a true in-house studio: fast-moving, cross-disciplinary, and deeply invested in the craft quality of everything it produces.
What you'll do:
- Concept, prompt, and execute photorealistic AI-generated campaigns across product, lifestyle, social, digital, and e-commerce formats — art-directing generative outputs with the rigor of a live-action shoot.
- Build and optimize node-based generative pipelines in ComfyUI, Weavy, and Figma — developing prompt strategies, LoRA frameworks, and reusable workflow components that scale across campaigns.
- Perform high-level Photoshop compositing and retouching, blending AI outputs with real product photography and brand assets.
- Coach and mentor designers on AI-assisted workflows, prompt engineering, and node architecture — building team capability across the studio.
- Evaluate and introduce emerging GenAI tools, serving as the studio's primary subject matter expert.
What you'll bring:
- 2–3 years of hands-on experience with Generative AI engines, pipeline architectures, and image generation tools in a professional production environment.
- Proven background in art direction, graphic design, retouching, or compositing — with a portfolio of believable, artifact-free AI-generated imagery.
- Deep knowledge of photography, lighting logic, lensing, and color grading applied to generative outputs.
- Mastery-level Adobe Creative Suite proficiency, with expert-level Photoshop compositing.
- Advanced experience in ComfyUI, Weavy, or equivalent node-based tools, including LoRA and ControlNet workflows.
- Advanced LLM proficiency for prompt engineering, concept development, and VibeCoding-style automation scripting.
- 7+ years total in design or creative roles; agency and in-house brand experience preferred.
