The Director, Fulfillment Automation Concept & Design is part of the Walmart Supply Chain Fulfillment Innovation & Automation team. This role leads the development of flexible automation concepts that expand Walmart’s fulfillment design portfolio beyond traditional facility models. The team translates business and operational needs into scalable, modular solutions using robotics, mobile automation, and other emerging technologies. Working across engineering, operations, product, finance, and external partners, the role guides concepts from early design through investment recommendation, helping Walmart deploy automation faster, more flexibly, and at lower cost across a range of fulfillment applications.
About the team:
The Fulfillment Automation Design team develops flexible, scalable automation concepts for Walmart’s future fulfillment network. We combine automation engineering, industrial engineering, analytics, and operations expertise to create modular solutions for new facilities, retrofits, and evolving business needs. The team defines system architectures, material flows, capacity models, and design standards, using simulation and engineering analysis to evaluate new technologies and concepts. Our work expands Walmart’s automation portfolio with solutions that can be deployed faster, adapted to changing requirements, and scaled across a broader range of fulfillment environments.
What you'll do:
- Lead concept development, system design, and investment recommendations for flexible and emerging fulfillment automation solutions.
- Translate business and operational needs into scalable automation architectures, material flows, capacity models, and design standards.
- Use data, simulation, and financial analysis to evaluate technologies, design tradeoffs, scalability, and ROI.
- Lead cross-functional design efforts with Operations, Product, Finance, Real Estate, Construction, and technology partners.
- Build engineering capability and develop repeatable, modular concepts that transition effectively from pilot through scaled deployment.
- Develop and mentor top-tier automation talent, fostering a high-performing team with the technical expertise, strategic perspective, and collaborative skills needed to deliver innovative fulfillment solutions.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
