Responsibilities for this role may include work on crash reporting tools and workflows, diagnostic and support tooling, automated test infrastructure and reporting, Unreal Editor utilities, command-line tools, content or build validation, and other systems that improve the day-to-day effectiveness of developers, QA, production, and support teams.
This role is fully remote with the option for hybrid or in-office work at our office in Eugene, OR and relocation assistance, if preferred.
Day To Day
• Partner with engineering, QA, production, support, and client stakeholders to identify workflow and tooling needs, then turn them into reliable production solutions.
• Design, build, and maintain systems for crash capture and reporting, diagnostic data collection, logging, telemetry, reproduction, and issue triage.
• Build automated testing tools, test orchestration, result analysis, reporting, and continuous integration workflows.
• Create Unreal Editor tools, plugins, commandlets, scripts, utilities, and validation systems.
• Integrate project tools with source control, build systems, issue tracking, external services, and platform-specific workflows.
• Investigate difficult failures and improve the systems that make future root causes easier to find.
• Write maintainable code, automated tests, documentation, and support materials so tools remain usable across the team.
• Provide accurate time estimates and communicate tradeoffs and risks clearly as project priorities evolve.
• Use approved AI-assisted coding tools within the requirements of the client and project.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
• Professional experience with UE 5, with the ability to work within a mature Unreal project and existing development workflows.
• Strong C++ experience, especially with Unreal modules, plugins, editor extensions, commandlets, or engine-level systems.
• Experience creating internal tools, automation, testing infrastructure, diagnostic systems, developer workflows, or related engineering solutions.
• Strong programming or scripting ability in at least one production language.
• Strong debugging and systems-thinking skills
• The ability to navigate large and unfamiliar codebases.
• Clear written and verbal communication across disciplines.
• Adaptability and comfort learning the tools that best serve a particular project and partner.
• Proficiency with at least one modern AI-assisted coding tool is required (OpenAI Codex, Claude Code, and GitHub Copilot). Candidates must be able to effectively direct the tool, critically review and validate generated work, and use it within applicable security and confidentiality requirements.
• Experience with version / source control, code review, issue tracking, and documentation workflows, such as Perforce or Git and Jira or equivalent tools.
Nice-To-Have Skills
• Experience with crash reporters, minidumps, symbols, call stacks, log aggregation, telemetry, or production support diagnostics.
• Experience with Unreal automation technologies such as the Automation Test Framework, Gauntlet, BuildGraph, or comparable systems.
• Experience with continuous integration, build farms, test orchestration, or developer productivity infrastructure.
• Experience shipping on PC or console platforms and supporting cross-platform development workflows.
• Experience with Python, C#, web technologies, Blazor, or service development used to support game-development pipelines.
• Experience with proprietary engines or other commercial game-development environments.
• Experience supporting live games, customer support workflows, or post-launch diagnostics.
Education and Experience
• 5+ years of relevant professional engineering experience.
• At least one shipped commercial game, or another substantial production release is preferred.
• A degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is helpful but not required when equivalent professional experience is demonstrated.
