General Purpose of Job:
To provide general clerical and patient care support to patient care units.

- Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates personal actions that are ethical and adhere to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines.
- Clerical duties: respond to communication devices such as phone/Vocera/call bells, able to complete basic entries and communication orders into the electronic medical record
- Room/Patient care equipment management: stocks supply, checks for expiration dates, orders supply, cleans equipment, cleans toys
- Infectious material exposure: transports blood borne pathogen or other patient specimens, picks up blood from blood bank and delivers to the unit; sprays surgical instruments with enzymatic cleanser and prepares/transports them for processing, packages or moves infectious waste containers for disposal; may provide in rooms support for patients on airborne precautions
- Patients at risk for self-harm or harm to others: performs room safety check, performs non-clinical patient assistant role
- Provide comfort care: direct patient contact/social interactions.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) continuously maintained. May onboard with AHA or Red Cross CPR and then transition to AHA upon first renewal.
Skills Required
- High school diploma or GED
- One to three months related experience and/or training (or equivalent)
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (CPR) continuously maintained
- Basic clerical skills and ability to enter orders/notes into electronic medical record
- Ability to respond to phones/Vocera/call bells and other communication devices
- Ability to stock supplies, check expiration dates, order supplies, and clean equipment/toys
- Ability to transport blood/specimens, handle infectious materials, and follow related precautions
- Perform room safety checks and non-clinical patient assistant duties for patients at risk of self-harm
- Provide direct patient comfort and social interaction
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies and corporate compliance
