The Controller provides total financial support for the Hendersonville, TN location to ensure consistency with corporate policies, procedures and guidelines and provide adequate controls for monitoring of corporate assets. They will have responsibility for setting key financial performance indicators and effectively communicating financial analysis and recommendations to management to improve financial performance, and guidance. 

Job Description

Financial Reporting, Planning and Analysis:

  • Champions the ITW Business Philosophy and uses company business processes and tools and sound judgement to analyse processes, identify and act on areas to reduce risk, complexity and/or cost savings.
  • Provides direction and assistance to all departments: operations, purchasing, sales, etc., in the preparation of the annual budget. The Controller prepares the annual plan used to measure and evaluate the financial status of the unit. 
  • The position is responsible for identifying improvement areas of the business and aids in the analysis and resolution of day-to-day problems. Conceives, prioritises, and delivers improvement opportunities in all areas. 
  • Preparation of monthly forecasts, end of month and mid-month outlook updates, revenue and OI flash reporting.
  • Assists compiling financials for the long-range plan (LRP) process and helps to communicate the strategy among others at the unit. 


Financial Records, Systems, Processes & Internal Control:

  • Plans, coordinates and administers the Operating Unit’s accounting functions, including cost accounting, general accounting, inventory accounting, payroll accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, profit planning, earnings estimates, other forecasts and special economic analysis. 
  • Consolidates accounting data and prepares reports necessary for management to keep abreast of the financial status of the unit and to identify potential problems or deficient areas. 
  • Responsible for review, implementation, and documentation of internal controls (specifically the ITW ICQ questionnaire and the Top 13 Controls). The Controller also ensures that we are striving for above average results to any internal audits.
  • Primary contact with governmental agencies with respect to payroll, tax and other reporting. 


Team Leadership & Development:

  • Serve on the US site leadership team to drive a positive culture of engagement and accountability
  • Responsible for managing and the local finance team to foster optimal performance and engagement
  • Assists the Division Controller in creation and execution of organization strategy for the function. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance required. MBA/CPA a plus.
  • 7+ years of accounting experience including general and cost accounting with responsibility for Inventory Control, P&L, and Balance Sheet Management required; significant and relevant experience in a manufacturing environment required following strict application of accounting principles.
  • 3+ years of experience in managing accounting teams or direct reports.
  • Proven track record of effectively partnering with cross-functional team members at all levels, translating data into useful information about the business, and influencing strategic initiatives to drive operational/financial results
  • Experience in creating budgets, forecasts, and analysis tools from the ground up, while ensuring accuracy, ease of use and simplification of design.

Solve problems when there are no available precedents, guidelines, or policies by drawing upon experience, research, input from peers, & accounting staff. 
  • Communication: Communicates to the operations manager, sales, customer service, accounting team and other departments to ensure effective two-way interaction. Superior written and verbal communication skills are required. 
  • Leadership/Initiative: Actively seeks accounting and financial improvements. Actively participates in the development of team, seeking opportunities that foster skill development. Consistently demonstrates integrity and high work standards. 
  • Business Knowledge: Keeps current with latest company developments along with industry trends.
