Role Overview
The Unified Checkout Product Development Manager is the delivery-focused product leader for Mastercard Unified Checkout Service, UCS. This role owns detailed product definition, development priorities and technical readiness required to deliver capabilities into production.
Working closely with architecture and engineering teams, the role converts product strategy, customer requirements and payment network requirements into a prioritised roadmap and actionable backlog. The role ensures requirements are clearly defined, testable and traceable, while actively managing dependencies, risks and trade-offs.
Primary Responsibilities
Roadmap, Prioritisation and Product Definition
• Own and maintain the UCS product roadmap, sequencing capabilities to maximise customer value and delivery impact.• Translate product strategy into clear development outcomes, priorities and acceptance criteria.• Prioritise new capabilities, enhancements, technical enablers, non-functional improvements, defects and lifecycle obligations.• Evaluate trade-offs across value, complexity, risk, dependencies and time to market, providing clear recommendations.• Maintain a transparent backlog with documented priorities and decisions.
Requirements and Engineering Partnership
• Collaborate with product, legal, architecture, engineering, security and operations teams to define product requirements.• Break down initiatives into features and stories, including customer journeys, business rules, interfaces, data requirements and acceptance criteria.• Ensure non-functional requirements such as performance, resilience, scalability, security, privacy and supportability are addressed.• Lead refinement sessions and requirement reviews to maintain alignment across business and technology teams.• Partner with architects and engineers to evaluate solution options and technical constraints.• Support delivery teams throughout build and testing, clarifying requirements and validating outcomes.
Delivery Governance and Readiness
• Drive delivery through discovery, design, build, integration, testing, pilot and launch readiness activities.• Track milestones, dependencies, risks, issues and decisions, escalating where appropriate.• Coordinate readiness requirements and support governance, pilot and release approvals.• Partner with engineering and test teams to define end-to-end scenarios and acceptance expectations.• Use delivery metrics and product performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
Pilots and Operational Enablement
• Provide regional product teams with clear capability descriptions, availability plans, dependencies and readiness status.• Support pilot planning, including use cases, participants, success measures and feedback processes.• Explain product functionality through customer journeys, integration flows and technical enablement sessions.• Work with Customer Support teams to establish support models, troubleshooting guidance and escalation paths.• Ensure customer-facing documentation, implementation guidance and release information remain accurate and current.• Capture pilot and operational feedback and convert insights into backlog improvements.
Stakeholder Leadership and Communication
• Partner closely with the Product Manager on roadmap execution, delivery confidence, technical decisions and risk management.• Present product capabilities, solution designs and delivery recommendations in clear business terms.• Own assigned commercial considerations, including implementation impacts, operational implications and partner dependencies.• Build alignment across regional product, architecture, engineering, operations, customer support and enablement teams.• Operate effectively within a global matrix organisation, driving accountability and informed decision-making.

• Proven experience in product development or technical product management for complex platform, API or digital payment solutions.• Strong understanding of the product lifecycle from discovery and requirements through launch and continuous improvement.• Experience managing roadmaps and backlogs across competing business, customer and technical priorities.• Ability to create detailed requirements, features, stories, customer journeys and acceptance criteria.• Credibility working with architects and engineers and translating complex technical concepts for business audiences.• Experience coordinating readiness across product, operations, customer support, documentation and go-to-market teams.• Knowledge of digital payments, e-commerce, tokenisation, authentication, payment networks and API products preferred.• Strong analytical skills, sound judgement and structured problem-solving capability.• Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, including communication with senior leadership.• Customer-focused, commercially aware and delivery-oriented.• Comfortable working across regions, time zones and highly matrixed organisations.• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. Advanced or technical qualifications are desirable.• Ability to travel occasionally, domestically and internationally.
