About The Team:

The Underwriting Senior Lead is responsible for shaping and executing credit underwriting strategy to ensure balanced portfolio growth, risk control, and sustainable business performance. This role oversees underwriting standards, analytics-driven decision frameworks, and portfolio monitoring while collaborating closely with risk, product, and business teams to continuously improve credit quality and customer acquisition outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish underwriting standards, decision frameworks, and exception governance to ensure consistent, compliant, and risk-aligned credit decision processes.
  • Lead analytics and decision-making related to credit underwriting for both new and existing customers, using data insights to optimize approval quality and portfolio health.
  • Monitor acquisition portfolio performance (e.g., approval rates, early delinquency trends) and continuously refine underwriting criteria to improve risk-return balance.
  • Develop and maintain underwriting policies, scorecards, and risk models aligned with business growth targets and regulatory expectations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (risk, product, data, and operations) to enhance underwriting tools, automation, and customer experience.
  • Provide strategic insights and reporting to senior management on credit performance, emerging risks, and underwriting effectiveness.
  • Mentor and lead the underwriting team to strengthen analytical capability, decision consistency, and governance discipline.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Business, or a related field (Master’s degree is a plus).
  • 10+ years of experience in credit underwriting, risk analytics, or credit policy roles, with leadership exposure preferred.
  • Proven experience in the financial services industry (banking, fintech, lending, or financial institutions) is strongly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret credit data, portfolio performance metrics, and risk trends to support decision-making.
  • Experience developing underwriting frameworks, credit policies, scorecards, or decision strategies.
  • Solid understanding of credit risk management, portfolio monitoring, and regulatory compliance practices.
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
