Role Profile
We are seeking an innovative and business-minded professional with underwriting expertise and a passion for solving complex problems through technology. In this role, you will help shape the future of underwriting by identifying opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and emerging technologies to improve workflows, decision-making, and user experiences.
Working across underwriting, product, and technology teams, you will translate business challenges into actionable concepts, evaluate solution options, assess feasibility, and support the development and implementation of innovative capabilities. The ideal candidate understands underwriting processes, is curious about the practical application of AI and automation, and excels at collaborating with diverse stakeholders to drive meaningful business outcomes. Success in this role requires solid analytical thinking, sound judgment, and the ability to connect underwriting expertise with technology-driven innovation.

For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of experience in underwriting, underwriting operations, insurance product, consulting, or a closely related business function
- 2+ years of experience working in underwriting workflows: underwriting risk evaluation, underwriting decision-making processes, or supporting the needs of underwriting professionals
- 2+ years of experience identifying business problems and translating them into workflow, product, process, or technology opportunities
- Experience working cross-functionally with business, product, and technology teams to evaluate solution options and technical feasibility
- Proven solid analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to structure ambiguous problems, synthesize information, and develop actionable recommendations
- Proven solid communication, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to build alignment across diverse stakeholders
- Proven curiosity about AI, automation, and emerging technologies, with the ability to quickly understand how new capabilities could be applied to underwriting workflows
- Willing to travel up to 10%
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with underwriting transformation, workflow modernization, automation, digital product, or process improvement initiatives
- Experience working on solutions involving generative AI, machine learning, intelligent automation, decision support, or related technologies
- Experience developing or evaluating product concepts, prototypes, proofs of concept, or pilots
- Experience with product management, product strategy, design thinking, service design, journey mapping, or workflow discovery
- Experience working within Agile methodologies and cross-functional Agile delivery teams
- Experience working in a regulated environment and considering compliance, privacy, governance, explainability, or operational risk when designing solutions
- Familiarity with practical AI concepts such as large language models, AI agents, human-in-the-loop workflows, model limitations, and responsible AI
- Familiarity with underwriting technology, including workflow platforms, rules engines, document processing, or decision-support tools

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $112,700 - $193,200 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
