The underwriter assistant is an important part of the underwriting process/team. Responsibilities include:
- Clearing new business and renewal submissions
- Coding premiums (mostly automated)
- Preparing quotes, binders and policies (binder is a term for temporary proof of insurance)
- Issuing endorsements and certificates on existing policies
- Working with underwriters to obtain required documentation from clients/brokers
- Develop industry knowledge through on-the-job training and formal training (in house) programs
- Minimal travel required
