Job Summary

The Research Assistant will work under supervision for the Microbiome Profiles of the Rio Grande and South Texas Farms and will be responsible for assisting in running and managing on-going research projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research and collect data through complex techniques and procedures.

  • Assist with data management and perform basic statistical analyses.

  • Develop assessment and evaluation tools.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Detailed lab notebook documentation.

  • Maintain aseptic techniques.

Minimum Requirements

  • Enrolled at least half-time, 6 credit hours per semester for undergraduate.

  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students.

  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).

Preferred Experience and Education

  • Enrolled in a Biology degree program with at least 12 credit hours in advanced coursework.

  • Working knowledge of molecular biology and microbiology protocols.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proficiency in use of personal computer workstation with common software applications.

  • Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines.

  • Outstanding customer service skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills.

  • Problem analysis and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to learn and use multiple software programs.

  • Subject to funding and/or need.
