This position is located on the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Wooster Campus at The Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute.

The Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2 position fosters student success by identifying and implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals. Advises students on university policy and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters. Assists in student orientation and teaches student survey/orientation course(s).

This position identifies new resources and collaborations for resolving student cases. Consistently directs students to appropriate resources. Completes routine work independently. For eligible students, provides additional specialized TRIO support services. Mentors new advisors and provides leadership in advising. Actively participates in advising professional development and stays current with technology for advising through ongoing training.

Provides and documents one-on-one advising to undergraduate students regarding degree and program options, academic standards,
general education, prerequisite requirements, and major courses for specific degrees. Consults and/or elevates outstanding matters that
students may have to advising program manager and university reporting protocols. Provides outreach and sustained advising for students
dealing with academic, probationary, and financial concerns. Reviews and processes add/drops, places/removes academic holds, maintains
advising records in university and grant platforms. Acquires information for students, including academic, career, financial, psychological, etc.
resources. Consistently directs students to appropriate resources.

Under general direction, initiates, leads or completes simple to moderate special projects within unit or with external partners. May collaborate
on projects led by others within unit or external partners. Independently seeks opportunities to engage in professional development.

May teach University survey course. Updates course materials and recommends course improvements. Able to modify delivery style to
address learning styles. Grades course assignments and provides evaluative feedback to students.

Assists in student orientation. Coordinates advising activities, updates and enhances orientation materials. Supports logistics of the
orientation program.

Qualifications
Minimum Education Required: Master's Level Degree (higher education preferred) 0 years' experience.

Able to communicate complex ideas in a manner that adapts to student needs. Able to articulate specific information on course content, programs, and policies to a variety of audiences. Effectively builds relationships with students and possesses adaptive relational skills. Demonstrates advanced communication skills; able to provide detail and depth to information conveyed.

Demonstrates and applies historical knowledge of the academic advising profession, including GE, enrollment plans, changing demographics, etc. Able to apply theory to advising practice, understand and follow FERPA guidelines, and engage in discussions with stakeholders. Ability to tailor advising interactions to accommodate or incorporate student’s individual needs. Able to assess a student’s potential for success in field of study and make appropriate referrals.

Preferred Experience: 3-6 years experience preferred. Knowledge of student and university requirements and policies. Able to perform basic and
advanced transactions in OnCourse and university/grant systems and platforms. Broad knowledge of course offerings, including knowledge
of General Education requirements, major courses, and course sequencing. Understands needs of students from wide variety of
backgrounds, needs of students eligible for TRIO services, and changing trends of students’ needs. Basic knowledge of student career
development, able to refer to appropriate engagement resources.
