Job Title:Undergraduate Academic Advisor 2

Department:Arts and Sciences | Neuroscience Undergraduate Major

The Academic Advisor fosters student success by identifying and implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals. The individual in this role advises students majoring in Neuroscience on university policy and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters. The Advisor assists in student orientation, teaches the college survey course, and participates in graduation-related work, including commencement rehearsal and lineup. The Advisor acquires information for students, including academic, career, financial, psychological, etc. resources and makes appropriate referrals. The individual holding this position serves on department/college committees as assigned; participates in professional development activities. The Advisor helps foster a community by aiding in the creation and hosting of academic and social events; instructs the Neuroscience survey course and assists in curriculum development; assists with oversight of student workers to ensure university policies and quality advising services are maintained; aids in the recruitment and retention of students through open houses, orientation sessions, and special events; and supports the professional representation of the neuroscience program to stakeholders within and outside of the university. Occasional evening and weekends required.

Required Qualifications: Master's degree required.  Able to readily articulate specific information on course content, programs, and policies, including specialty areas. Able to effectively build relationships with students and possesses adaptive relational skills. Demonstrates advanced communication skills; able to provide detail and depth to information conveyed. Able to apply theory to advising practice. Understands and follows FERPA guidelines and engages in discussions with stakeholders. Able to tailor advising interactions to accommodate or incorporate student's personal/cultural identity. Able to discuss relevance of program to student's goals. Able to assess a student's potential for success in a field of study and make appropriate referrals. 

Desired: One year of relevant experience. Demonstrates and applies historical knowledge of the academic advising profession, including GE, enrollment plans, changing demographics, etc.

Additional Information:

The pay range for this job profile is $50,003.20 - $55,000.00. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
