Purpose:
Provides outpatient only services for healthcare-related imaging to patients of all ages in the areas of general abdomen, OB/GYN, and small parts. The Ultrasound Technologist assists in developing and administering sonographic procedures and policies as well as organize machine maintenance and performs periodic calibrations.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Performs abdominal, retroperitoneal, small parts, Vascular, obstetric and gynecological scan and completes essential forms related to exams.
- Communicates critical findings to Radiologists.
- Maintains records of examination date and other pertinent information on patients.
- Actively participates in the quality-assurance monitoring and recording efforts of the department.
- Cares for as well as operates necessary equipment
- Performs necessary maintenance with usage of other Special Testing equipment
- Maintains cleanliness of all work areas
- Demonstrates awareness of patient needs and education, striving to provide excellence in quality patient care
- Places orders for all supplies and equipment as needed to maintain adequate stock, utilizing principles of cost-effectiveness
- Assumes assigned responsibilities in a cooperative effort to maintain departmental quality assurance
- Provides assistance to co-workers as is necessary and appropriate, demonstrating a consistent effort to increase the speed and efficiency of all departmental functions
- Provides clear, complete instructions to all patients, answering questions as accurately as is possible
- Oversee or designate a qualified individual to oversee the radiation protection program for employees, patients, and other individuals in the surrounding area
- May travel to various Wilmington Health locations as needed, to include Jacksonville, NC, Porters Neck, and/or Brunswick Forest (Leland, NC).

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Education: Completion of an ultrasound-training program with ARDMS certification
- Licensure: Current ARDMS registry and North Carolina license
- Experience: General radiology skills and at least two years of experience
- Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with patients and co-workers.
- Full COVID 19 vaccination is required as a condition of employment for all positions with Wilmington Health. Documentation is required prior to orientation.

In this way, Wilmington Health is able to provide a comprehensive and coordinated approach to the care of all our patients. In 2013, Wilmington Health was named a 2013 Acclaim Award Honoree by the American Medical Group Association (AMGA). The prestigious honor is awarded annually to only three national healthcare organizations. Previous esteemed Acclaim Award Honorees include Mayo Clinic Health System, Johns Hopkins Medicine, and The Cleveland Clinic. Wilmington Health’s drive to become a High Performance Health System (HPHS) began over five years ago by taking a programmatic approach involving a three part system of change including direction setting by our leadership, process improvement at the ground level, and a redesign of the most elemental processes throughout the organization. A priority was given to paying careful attention to metrics, analysis, and critical assessment of each innovation and how these changes may affect the total cost of care. Only by understanding each of these aspects at work, was the organization able to pragmatically and intelligently design a future approach to the provision of healthcare. Additionally, Wilmington Health leadership began to put greater focus on creating a culture of change within the organization, understanding that this is the most powerful tool in any transformative process. Included were new and improved support systems for staff and providers and development of an inspirational approach to leading the entire team to provide patient-centered healthcare. July 2012, Wilmington Health partnered with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina to form an ACO agreement. This was the first insurer-provider Accountable Care Organization in the region.
