UI Engineer

Hi, we’re Griffin! We’re the bank for companies who want to build and launch financial products.

We're rapidly heading towards a future where most of us access financial services through technology companies rather than high street banks. All sorts of companies are now embedding financial products into their apps and user journeys so that their customers can seamlessly make payments, manage expenses, take out loans, save, invest, and do more.

The problem is that companies are still dependent on legacy banking infrastructure if they want to offer regulated financial products. They need to either partner directly with an incumbent bank and/or stitch together middleware from various Banking as a Service (BaaS) providers. This process is slow, expensive, and complex and makes it very hard for companies to get new financial products off the ground.

At Griffin, we want to change this.

We want to make it easy for companies to bring finance to their customers at the point of greatest relevance. So, we built a bank.

The ideal candidate for this job will have most of the following:

• Strong portfolio demonstrating UI/UX design work, ideally for web applications or developer tools

• Comfortable working with HTML, CSS, TypeScript/JavaScript, and frontend frameworks (Svelte, React, or similar)

• Solid understanding of semantic and accessible HTML and CSS

• Experience designing and evolving design systems

• An appreciation for the importance of good documentation–internal and external

• Experience in cross-functional product development teams, shipping consumer-facing features

• Attention to detail, especially around performance, accessibility, reliability, and security

Nice to have:

• Experience with one or more of the technologies within our frontend stack (CLJS, Svelte, Reframe, Reagent, Styled Components & Styled System)
  

As a UI engineer at Griffin, you'll be...

• Designing user interfaces and experiences for our banking platform

• Integrating and extending our backend APIs

• Helping build and grow our design system from both a design and code perspective

• Writing accessible, semantic and performant frontend code

• Developing and extending our test suite

• Working in tandem with designers

The unique aspect of this role: You'll bridge design and engineering. Sometimes you'll design and implement features end-to-end. Other times you'll design interfaces that engineers build, but you'll be able to jump into the code to refine details, fix bugs, or build components for the design system.

As a bank, we’re committed to maintaining the highest standards of security. We have a small London office in Moorgate, but we are comfortable hiring people to work from anywhere in the UK. About a third of the company is based within occasional commuting distance of London, the rest are full-time remote.
