Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. is looking for an Ultra High Purity (UHP) Project Engineer to join the West Customer Engineering Operations team based in the Greater Phoenix, Arizona area. This position involves managing the development and implementation of complex UHP industrial gas delivery system projects for semiconductor and electronics clients, with UHP or equivalent experience preferred.

The position covers the full lifecycle of projects—from proposal development through execution, commissioning, and turnover—while collaborating with multi-functional global teams that include customer engineering asset, product, work process and equipment support, as well as adjacent partners in sales, logistics, and operations. The role emphasizes safety leadership, technical excellence, and customer-focused solution delivery.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong safety leadership, excellent organizational and project management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams. They should be customer-focused, goal-oriented, and capable of successfully delivering projects on time and within budget. This role also requires occasional domestic travel (approximately 5–10%).

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and complete UHP industrial gas delivery system projects across all phases
  • Build contractor RFQs, evaluate bids, and manage contractor scope and timelines
  • Prepare technical proposals, cost estimates, and bills of materials
  • Build equipment layouts and system flow schematic drawings
  • Support commercial sales teams by translating customer requirements into engineered solutions
  • Monitor project progress against schedule, budget, and contract requirements
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams across internal engineering, sales, and operations, and external customers and suppliers, located in diverse geographies
  • Work with lead engineers and participate in mentoring and training

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related fields
  • Minimum 5 years of project engineering experience
  • Experience managing contractors and tracking schedule and budget
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Basic understanding of CAD/drafting
  • Financial analysis capability and technical capability to under process and customer technology
  • Strong problem-solving approach with a focus on results
  • Experience working with Ultra High Purity gas delivery systems
  • Knowledge of NFPA and CGA codes
  • Experience supporting semiconductor/electronics customers
  • Ability to work with suppliers and clients in technical environments
