PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under general direction of the Engineering Drafting Manager, perform 3D CADD solid modeling, with knowledge and understanding of mechanical design principles. Develop solid models and 2D drawing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Use CADD software to develop concise and complex parametric solid models and drawings that meet engineering requirements. Be proficient in creation and constraint of features using a sketcher or equivalent.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with engineers and drafting personnel to clarify requirements and resolve issues.
- Plan and prioritize work to meet multiple deadlines while maintaining organized models, files, and documentation.
- Incorporate design intent into the solid model by managing parent/child relationships; assigning functional relations; using simplified reps, reference sets, layer settings or similar functions to control designs.
- Apply drafting fundamentals including orthographic views, standard dimensioning, scaling, and correct use of English and Metric units.
- Prepare drafting time estimates for project based on schedule and resources.
- Maintain and follow work plan for project to ensure a complete design/drawing package is completed on time and within the employee resources.
- Follow established Engineering Change and documentation control processes.
- Prepare Engineering Revision Notice, and assist Design Engineering team with engineering drawing revisions and required documentation
- Use PLM tools (Teamcenter) to create, manage, revise, and release CADD data and associated documentation.
- Ensure drawing and model structure meet the requirements of engineering parts lists.
- Apply working knowledge of machinery and mechanical components in modeling and detailing.
- Perform all work to required quality standards and within agreed schedules.
- Maintain certification for GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)/CADD and take and acceptably pass written tests.
- Performs work of equal or lower code level as required.

Provides guidance and assistance to lower classified drafting and technical personnel, as required.
DIRECTION RECEIVED:
Receives assignments from supervision and/or drafting lead, and with minimal technical guidance from engineering. Work is carried to completion entirely on initiative of employee. All work is subject to normal engineering review and approval.
This is a Union Represented position.BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- AA degree in drafting from an accredited college, or advanced technical training, or its equivalent in experience with 4 years of experience (Note: an additional 2 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
- Proficient in use of CAD (CREO and/or NX).
- Must satisfactorily pass the job code level examination/assessment:
- Minimum of 75% (combination of written and proficiency in NX CAD system)
- Minimum of 70% Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing fundamentals.
- US Citizenship required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 4 years’ experience as a CAD Mechanical Design Drafter.
- Must have working knowledge and understanding of GD&T, and Drawing/Drafting Standards: ANSI Y14.5M, Mil Spec, and Drafting Standard Manual.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with engineering and other drafting personnel; and to collaborate, coordinate, and follow project activities to completion with a high degree of accuracy.
- PC/Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Knowledge of Engineering Change process and documentation control.
Skills Required
- Associate degree in drafting from an accredited college, advanced technical training, or equivalent experience
- Four years of relevant experience if substituting experience for the degree; an additional two years may be considered in lieu of a degree
- Proficiency in CAD, specifically Creo and/or NX
- Pass the job code examination or assessment, including at least 75% combined written and NX CAD proficiency scores
- Score at least 70% on Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing fundamentals
- U.S. citizenship
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret clearance
