Job Summary
The Senior Accountant I is responsible for overseeing financial operations. This role requires advanced expertise in financial analysis, reporting, and process improvement. The Senior Accountant I will lead critical accounting functions, mentor junior staff, and serve as a key liaison between the accounting department and senior management. Success in this role demands exceptional problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insights.
Essential Job Functions
- Optimize all aspects of the month-end close process, ensuring accuracy and efficiency
- Implement advanced financial controls and accounting policies
- Oversee account reconciliations and resolve accounting issues
- Spearhead the preparation of financial statements and reports for senior management and external stakeholders
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes, providing critical analysis and recommendations
- Enhance cost accounting systems, including inventory valuation and overhead allocation
- Support internal and external audit processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP and other relevant standards
- Provide financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and business growth initiatives
- Mentor and develop junior accounting staff, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline financial processes and systems
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
- 4-5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
- Expert-level skills financial modeling and advanced Excel functions
- Comprehensive knowledge of GAAP
- Proven experience in implementing and optimizing ERP systems
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills
- Master's degree in Accounting or CPA
- Advanced expertise in data analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar
- Knowledge of lean accounting principles and process improvement methodologies
- Experience in cost accounting and financial planning in the agricultural or food production industry
- Experience with mergers and acquisitions accounting
The role primarily involves office work with potential for on-site visits to production facilities. May be required to work extended hours during peak periods such as month-end close or annual audits. This position may require occasional weekend work and the ability to manage multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
